With a SS Sporter barrel, what should I expect in accuracy?
Does bedding the stock help accuracy?
If you buy a kidd barrel, do you always keep the band around front, or do you attempt free float ?
Thanks fellas.

I was told you DON’T FF the barrel. Rather… guys bed the barrel and FF the receiver… Or something along these lines.
Conventional Bolt Gun methods don’t translate to 10/22. Maybe others will disagree… but years back I asked about this nonsense too.
no barrel band on a kidd rifle
tony kidd even does one with a threaded barrel and receiver like a real gun.
buy you one of his barreled actions and either put it in a cheap hoage stock or if you want the best order a mcmillian stock to fit it.
There are 10/22 space guns (lots of mods) that will score 250/multiple x’s all day with boring regularity if you do your part. You might want to think about some of their tricks on your fun gun.
For just an upgraded fun gun example, the rifle I took to a Appleseed weekend in March had aftermarket trigger and mag release, upgraded bolt recoil buffer, recontoured bolt, factory barrel set-back to allow Que to cut a match chamber, new crown, bedded action, FF barrel, and Karsten comb riser with an Insight MRDS. It looks pretty normal (for instance, I left the barrel band on it, but relieved it from touching the barrel) and shoots dime size groups at 50 yards all day (good as I can do with old eyes and a 3.5 MOA dot). Check the 10/22 info on Rimfirecentral.com for some specific suggestions (http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=9).
I have shot gophers out to 218 yards with my FF 16’’ KIDD barrel, no bedding at all. Here is my first target at 150y with this 10/22.

Does Kidd make clone receivers etc or does he modify, true up kinda a 10-22 receiver? I hear you guys say “Kidd” gun, but is it 100% Kidd? Or did it start as a 10-22 Ruger?
Nice for 150
Have you thought about a X Ring 10/22 reciever…

Long time 10/22 shooter, and if I had to build a tack driver today, that would be my route.
Kidd makes all his own stuff and it is top notch.
That do look primo !
Ive only ever bedded the action on mine. Never seen one with a barrel bedded, but heard/read about them. My honest opinion is, if I ever build another, Im gonna just try to get a well inletted, tight fitting stock and be done with it. I mean, yes…however much money you want to put into it you can, but my rifle has been FLY accurate…[shooting house flies on targets out past 25 yards] for many tens of thousands of rounds. It aint NOW, but it was. Still shoots into a tad over a silver dollar at 100 yards. I think the weight of my 24" bull barrel helped stop any movement also.
Oh- I also once slipped a square piece of playing card in between the receiver and stock. Worked very well for thousands of rounds.
I have a pretty basic 10/22 (standard black laminate model) I use just for plinking and teaching the kiddo to shoot, no aftermarket barrel or anything. Would just bedding the action and relieving the barrel band be worth the effort? I have zero interest in spending money on it, but if it’s something easily done at home that would yield any results sounds like a fun way to kill an hour. I do have Acraglass on hand I use for Glock work, would that be a good way to go?
MY humble opinion…if your stock has a nice tight fit, Id open up the barrel channel enough to free float the barrel, loos the band, and be done with it. If your stock is loose fitting or with noticeable play…glass bed or shim it.
Great feedback guys.
