meprolight

i recently just bought a COLT M4 for target shooting and who knows maybe home defence, i love the iron sight, and i got nothing on it as far as optics or anything cause i dont need it, i am not using this weapon for anything other than practice and target shooting purposes(i am military) but i was looking at some sights and maybe i would get one if my pocket allows me, accog is out of the question, aimpoint i use at work so no, maybe eotech or i like the meprolight they had at the shop, no batteries and the IDF uses it so its gotta be good, i was wondering if anyone has any input on it , i might just keep the carry handle sight and get a meprolight with a carry handle mount, hows the sight picture, does anyone have any pictures??? anything would be nice thanks very much, ohh how bright is it at night/day

The mepro is not very good. It has issues with transitioning from dark to bright and really is not to great in low light. Also mounting anything on your carrying handle is going to be a nightmare when it comes to cheek weld and height over bore.

I would say get an Aimpoint and try to set up your civilian carbine as close as you can to your issued weapon. You can find used M68s on Ebay and the for sale boards on this forum for a few hundred bucks, and you’re getting a top of the line optic.

This way any shooting or training you do one your own time with your weapon will directly translate to your issued weapon as well. Something to think about.

I have an older version of the m21 sight for several years. It’s a nice sight but it does have its limitation.

There is no battery to worry about and it’s pretty rugged. However, in a bright day outdoor or a target with a light color, the dot will simply “wash out”. Since there is no intensity adjustment, there is nothing you can do about that. I have to keep my iron sight up all the time. It does co-witness on a flattop.

Another problem is in low light situation, the dot will be visible until you start to paint the room with your light. The dot will wash out as well.

For the price, I will get an Aimpoint.

I bought a Reflex II about 9 years ago. I will never buy another.
The old Reflex series and the Mepros work in similar ways . Ten years ago that approach seemed to have some real promise. Since then the old technology has been proven to be a dead end and Aimpoint has left the obsolete stuff in the dust.

Most people on the site seem to suggest an Aimpoint C3 as the best value for an economy civilian RD.

Oh boy…I served 9 years in the IDF…So believe me when I say: Stay away from the Mepro M21. Now the Mepro MOR is THE SHIT but it’s expensive especially when you don’t need/want the two lasers. The MOR is 3 power (light gathering fiber, tritium and battery power).

From the horses mouth.

Thanks for posting that here! Nothing like an opinion from a serious end user!
