The mayans don’t use the gregorian calendar (leap years…). They use their own, based on a full count of actual days in a year, no 1/4 day so no leap year…
No where in Mayan history does it state the end of the 13th bachtun correlates to the end of the world desoite popular belief otherwise.
Apparently you don’t remember the early 80s when the US and the USSR were constantly on the verge of nuking the shit out of each other. The only catastrophic event of 2012 will be the re election of Obama.
All kidding aside, I have been experiencing something akin to an inexplicable “dread” over what’s going on in the world for several months now. Other people I’ve talked to have made the same observation: that you just “know” something BIG and not necessarily good is getting ready to happen on a large scale.
In other words, it’s not an anxiety that something bad might happen to you per se, but just a feeling that we are going to look back on this as being the good ol’ days after whatever is getting ready to happen actually occurs.
It may be a coping mechanism, but I tend to cite this as the reason the world seems like it is going to all hell. We simply hear about every little thing now a days.
I’m not saying everything is all peachy and nothing bad can happen. But if we had the equivalent of the Cuban Missile Crisis or the early 80s nuke scare today everybody would be going apeshit.
When was the last time you saw somebody dig a fallout shelter since 2000? My grandparents had one. And when my grandfather decides the time has come to build a fallout shelter in the basement instead of watching the Untouchables, you know shit is scary.
I think this is comparable to the buildup around World War II.
You know it’s coming, and most of it will be “over there”, but there is still the notion that infiltrators could set off a dirty bomb in Phoenix or something.
I could also see prices skyrocketing and supplies dwindling for some items.
