Is it possible to change out the peep site on the Magpul BUIS? I thought I read you could with some other sights.
It’s a backup, why would you need or want to?
I prefer the peep sight to be a little smaller, but mainly I have a hard time leaving anything as it is.
When I first picked up my MBUS set I had my doubts that I would be impressed enough to change out my sights on my work gun. I felt the plastic was too flexible and the mounting bracket was not sturdy enough. I was also not a fan of the rear aperture as well. I thought they would make a good “plinker rifle” or dedicated .22LR setup, but I love Magpul’s gear and wanted to give the sights the benefit of the doubt.
Fast forward to 3 carbine classes, 2 LE competitions, and several work callouts later and I couldn’t be happier with the sights. They are lighter (which is not a huge deal since the ones they replaced weren’t hand-weights), just as sturdy, held their zero since they were mounted, and have taken some abuse. The springs have held up through deploying and closing hundreds of times. I have yet to have a sight deploy by accident since I started using them and that includes riding around in my rifle bag in a patrol car most of the time.
I still wanted to change out the rear aperture until I though “Self, these are backup sights for an optic failure, not a match sight” and ever since then I have enjoyed the hell out of them. I have had good hits to 300 yards using the MBUS so they will get the job done.
I didn’t run out and sell off my Troy sights and replace them with MBUS’ but at less than half the pricetag (LE discount through brownells was less than $85 shipped for the set) I doubt I will throw down the $250 again for a set of Troys.
Shoot the MBUS for a while and I would be willing to bet that the aperture grows on you. It did fir me. Use it for it’s intended purpose and realize it’s not a match sight and they will serve you well. I love mine!
So far, my Magpul BUS has only been to the range. In November, I’m taking another carbine class with it.
We shall see.
Real good point, thanks!
very cool
