Please excuse the noob question.
Why would I want to put a magnifier in front of my ML2? Or should I say behind it?
Does it turn it into a scope?
Did I just answer my own question?
Seems like an odd setup to me, but I’ve never looked through one, so I could be way off base.

A magnifier increases your effective range with a zero magnification red dot optic. It goes behind your red dot sight, so you’d end up looking through the magnifier and then your optic. The most common magnification I see is 3x, but there are also 4x and 5x magnifiers available I believe.
You can mount a magnifier with either a fixed mount (it essentially stays deployed and upright until you take it off completely), a quick release mount, which would allow you to completely remove magnifier and mount off the rifle much faster, or what you see the most, which is a flip-to-side mount.
With the flip to side mount, you can have the magnifier down and out of the way when working with distances were you don’t need any magnification, but when the need calls for it, you flip it right up and you now just increased you effective engagement distance.
Magnifiers don’t alter the zero in any way on a red dot sight. I’m also pretty sure that magnifiers do not alter the size of the dot.
