M855 SS109 62 Grain - Commercial Maker?

Anyone know which current commercial manufacturer offers something closest to the M855 round?

The military stuff is almost impossible to find.

I have seen both S&B and Privi in ss109, good luck with finding some though.

When you take away the Quality Control of real M855 ammo, there’s not much left to like about the ammo.

In other words… the only real upside to getting M855 is the strict QC in the ammo production. Take away that, and you really have a marginal performing round with average accuracy at best.

I’d go with either an M193 or the 75grain 5.56 TAP ammo if you can find either of those.

Doesn’t Black Hills make a round similiar to the M855?

Weight wise Federal AE makes a 62gr. FMJ round. I have fired it and it works without a problem. I only wish that I had bought more.

That is Prvi Partizan Greentip and not U.S made M855 ammunition.

I havent seen any NATO stamped M855 in awhile.

Thankfully M193 is flowing on the market. Too bad I shoot it as fast as I buy it :frowning:

DoubleTap manufactures M855 spec ammunition that is sealed at the neck and primer. It is manufactured using new Winchester projectiles and loaded by DT. They call it “Match grade” whatever that means.

Lake City ammunition is marked LC and a two-digit year on the headstamp. It comes in bandoleers of with 30 rounds per pocket on stripper clips.

PPU is the headstamp for Prvi Partizan Uzice( which is the factory in Serbia)

I was going through some old stuff the other day and found 30 rounds of IMI M855. I immediately stripped it out of the old USGI surplus mag and reloaded it into a Pmag.

I wish I hadn’t shot up all that IMI stuff years ago… :frowning:

I have wondered if I could similar performance out of Hornaday 60 gr. TAP? I have not tried the Hornady stuff yet, but have a couple of boxes stored.
