M&P Shield

What is my best option for picking one of these up? I know I am going to have to wait, and that is not an issue (upcoming deployment) but I’m not sure where I can even get on a list, etc. Any thoughts?

Have you handled one yet? I was set on getting a shield, then I got hands on with a M&P 9c. I immediately liked it better, and I am very glad my lgs was sold out of the shield. I know 2 guys that have sheilds that they paid a premium for and they love them. If the shield is the right pistol for you, and you can find one for the right price, you probably won’t be disappointed. I realize I strayed off topic, sorry. I meant to say that if you can’t find Shields in Stock, maybe you could find compacts and be just as happy, if not more so like myself.

I own a compact as well as a full size and I love both. I have no doubt that I will love the Shield as well.

keep an eye on Clyde’s Armory. no one local has the Shield but they got 12 in and I sent my buddy up there and he got one. this was a month or so ago so I know they are getting them…

me too. I have FS and C and got a Shield. as the guy above says, it’s not much different in size than the Compact but I do like mine. I’m left handed and this is my BUG. too big for front pocket carry even with 7 rd mags though it’s fine in a cargo pocket…

I bet these will be verrrry popular now that NY has instituted their stupid law…

Yea I have the 9c and .40c and was set on getting the Shield but the size difference is pretty minimal, + the compacts hold more rounds.

I really like the Shield (9mm) much more than I thought I would. For a cheap little plastic pistol, it’s sweet. I also have a XDs and it’s also much better than I thought it would be. Both run very well with no issues… I would think this would be a good time to work up a trade. M193 for Shield?? Ron

I Love my 9mm Shield. However, I wish it held more rounds, of course, but I love how slim and compact it is. It’s a trade off that I am willing to except.

I have the 9c, which my Wife subsequently appropriated, and the Shield, which has become my regular hot-weather carry gun. They’re both excellent pistols, but different enough that they fill different billets.

The 9c now rides in the Wife’s fanny pack, and the Shield rides behind my hip in a Kydex IWB.

The Shield conceals significantly better than the 9c for me. The thinner mags make them easier for me to carry reloads too. I love both pistols, and the 9c makes a good winter carry gun, but in most cases, I’m carrying the Shield.

I really like my shield. The apex trigger is a nice addition, but not needed. I have Talon grips, but I’m considering a light stipple job. I put the all black Ameriglo sights on and I couldn’t be happier.

What really surprised me was how nice it is shoot. I was shocked at how the small grip felt really good. When I initially held the gun I really didn’t think I could keep a good grip on it.

My wife actually prefers it over my glocks. My goal this year is to buy two more. A spare for me and one for my wife. I might get her slide cerakoted purple for her.

My only grips is the rear sights (both the stock & ameriglo) are kind of sharp. It’s a little uncomfortable with certain holsters. Other than that it’s pretty comfy to carry.

As far as the OP’s original question as to where to get one. I gave in and paid retail. I went through gunbroker to see which shops had them, then went directly to their shop’s website to order direct. I only saved about $20 vs the “buy now” option.

I got one for my GF and I want to get another for me. It’s a great little gun with great accuracy for its size.

Here’s a quick range report I did when I first got it.

i have a shield and am very happy with it. No malfunctions of any kind and it shoots very well for it’s size. I’m better with my G19, but the shield fills a different role. Living in the hot weather the shield is something I can conceal easily and not feel like I’m ‘outgunned’. My only issue I have with it is my thumb tends to ride the slide release because I have long thumbs and as such occasionally the slide doesn’t lock back after the last round. Training issue… but for the role I bought it for, I’m very impressed and happy with it. I also like that the trigger is similar enough to the glocks that it’s not like learning an entirely new breakpoint/reset system

They seem to have gotten good reviews from what I’ve seen.

Ok, maybe I misunderstood the original question. I thought he was asking for where he can get one, not for all the reviews of how great it is. That’s like telling a kid how good the ice cream cone was that you just finished while not offering to give him one.

Try the following to get on a list:

I will tell you that I have gotten a few notifications but by the time I see the email and get on the website they are already sold out.

Since you are military, try the following:
It doesn’t have a “waiting list,” but they are the cheapest prices that I have found. You just need to keep checking the website:

I just shot one today at my LGS. I grouped it just as good, if not better than my CCW Glock 19. If supply ever comes back, I’m buying one for me, and one for the gf (she also shot incredibly well with it).

I had one but sold it and went back to a G26. Capacity was king for me. They sell very fast if you decide to dump it later also.

I’ve been trying to get my hands on one for months and every time I go into my local shop (Skagit Arm) they don’t have one. I want one in .40 when and if supplies start to pick up.

My local shop has a .40 cal. PPQ and has had it on their shelf for a few weeks now. I just bought 2 9mm PPQ’s from them last week.

Quite a few of them on gunbroker.com right now.
