I am sorry to post another question so soon but I have run into a problem on another build.
Today I tried to install a Magpul Enhanced Trigger guard (thanks Grant) in a M&P lower. The rear portion locks in with the roll pin just fine however the front will not engage quite enough to allow for the installation of the set screw.
It looks like the ETG is about 1/16 - 1/8 of an inch out of position and it seems like the guard is contacting the lower on the right side. My problem is that I am not sure the best way to rectify this. I would assume that the best wqay would be to take a file or dremel to the enge of the WTG. However I am hesitant to start hacking on anything.
Is this a common isue with M&P lowers or did I just get an off one in this trade.
Loosen the screw that holds the grip enough to have some “play” and align the front of the trigger guard and insert/tighten setscrew. Now tighten the screw holding the grip to the lower.
Mine was very tight but it went with some fidling. I kind of forced it. can you install the set screw all the way in and the back it out once you have the guard in place?
If you’re certain you tried installing correctly, then don’t be afraid to remove small amounts of material as needed to fit - small amounts of material! Fear not.
I ended up taking a Dremel to it. I started with a file but there was to much that had to me removed and I needed to be able to have a concave curve.
It appears that this S&W lower didn’t have as much material machines away on the right side where the front of the trigger guard engages in.
I am sure it was installed right because I have installed these on every one of my rifles.
I did try screwing the set screw all the way in then backing it out, however the screw wont’ go in far enough to engage properly. In hindsight it would have been easier to switch this Grip and Trigger guard out for a full MIAD I have on another rifle but it didnt’ occur to me till after I was done.
