OK, to start, I have a Surefire LX2 and EB1. The LX2 is my duty light, although I have used it for EDC. the EB1 is my current EDC. I love that they have dual modes of bright and dim, and that the bright mode is first.
That said, I’m not too big on the push/twist tailcap and they also can be difficult to extract from my pocket in a hurry. I am considering selling my LX2 and EB1 and replacing them with 2 lights from the Surefire E series line, specifically the Defenders. I want one 2 cell such as the E2D, and one 1 cell such as the E1D (discontinued). Here are my questions and concerns:
-Both the LX2 and EB1 have rather slick rear ends, and since I carry bezel down, removing them from my pocket in a hurry is clumsy. I really like how the Defender series have the widened tailcap area, making withdrawl from my pocket easy. I own a Surefire VTAC L4 light mounted on one of my rifles, and with some practice with that, it seems perfect. But the L4 does away with the sharp edges on the tailcap and bezel. Were I to get an E2D and/or E1D, is it possible to replace either the tailcap or bezel with versions that arent so aggressive? Putting holes in my pockets is not ideal.
-Are both the E2D and E1D compatible with LX2 and EB1 pocket clips? Thats what I want to use, as I carry bezel down.
-My tactics require that any light that I carry have its high mode FIRST in activation, and a dim mode second. I need to be able to simply mash that button and get bright light. I see that the new version of the E2D has this (dim is second), but is there a way to get an E1D or similar light with this style? Also, is there a way to get an E1D style light with a brighter head, such as 200 lumens?
-I know some stuff about flashlights, but which piece controls the modes? If I mix and match, I want to be able to make my ideal flashlight as such: press for high(200 lumens+), release and press again for low. push in further for constant on in either mode. If I use parts from the VTAC lights or others, what will be my compatibility in making this style? My goal is to have two Defender style lights, one single cell and one double cell. Both must have around 200 lumens+ on high (first mode) and also have a low mode.
Thank you for taking the time to read and answer my questions. Sorry if it sounds confusing, I’m trying to make it as easy to understand as possible. Ask me for further clarification.
Thanks
