Looking for a (S&W model 27) Now Model 28 with a 4 in barrel

I’ve checked everywhere locally for a used one, None are availablle, so I can’t even find one to inspect.

New ones are going between $950.00 - $1250. Everyone has offered to order one for me, but I still can’t get my hands on one unless I want to commit to buying it.

Leap of Faith or No?

Have you considered looking for a Model 28? Same basic gun, just with less cosmetic appeal. Should shoot the same.

What are your intentions for the pistol? Collecting ? Shooting ?

Do you prefer the original model, or would one of the newer versions do?

I happen to have a M28. Shoots great. Heavy, but that helps with recoil - .357 rounds are not a problem, and can fire a whole box of .38 specials without a care.

Yes, I have with the same unfortunate results.

Well, I started out on Revolvers and I have got a wild hair, so here we go.

I would prefer an Older One, but then I would have to inspect a lot closer, so bit of a quandry on that.

I don’t mind weight, I would like to have something stout enough to pass down.

I just picked up a 29-5, 66-1 and 25-2 over the past 90 days from winning an auction at Rock Island. The sheer volume and variety of old smiths along with the rest of the entirety of guns classic, ancient and modern is astounding.

There are numerous 27’s on most auctions from high $ registered magnums to 28-8 modern versions. I think the 4” was late 70’s introduction so I’d go for a 27-2 with the counterbore and pinned barrel myself….peak 27.

I waited and waited and finally went with the 1970’s era 28-2. Highway Patrolman Same pinned 4 inch Barrel and counterbored cylinder.just slightly not as fancy on the backstrap checkering..

An elegant Weapon for a more civilized age.

That’s the ticket, a fraction of the price with majority of the features, just not hand polished with the service level, not target trigger, hammer and grips. 27-2 are $1500++ these days, with ones under $1000 neglected, refinished or abused.

Not as clumsy or random as a Glock with a switch…

You know this is quickly becomming an obsession. I believe I will get another 28 with a six inch barrel before I start in buying 27’s.

Check out Cabelas/Bass Pro. You can buy their Used Guns online from any store and they’ll ship to your local one for free. Just grabbed a pre27 (you’re fault) 8 3/8” monster last week and I pick it up tomorrow.

There are some really great Folks I met through an introduction here, I kind of like to deal with them ‘cause we’re all in Texas.

I’ve already got my eye out for the next one.

Have you gotten to shoot the 4” yet, or us it still waiting in the queue?

Just busy but, its looking good for Monday

It’s why I mentioned it, my Pre 27 came from DFW Cabelas.
