along these lines, what is everyones impression of the new RRS LR308 Elite operator series? they look great and offer lots of features for not a lot of money?
It seems to be missing some key features in my opinion.
- Chrome lined barrel
- Ability to use readily available DPMS/SR25 patern mags
Bushmaster MOE 308 seems to be a better budget carbine.
Haven’t used either gun.
the mag thing is not a big deal to me. durability and proper operation is, but I don’t know about that in this gun. They say the barrels are chrome steel and cryo treated. But I don’t know anything about the frame material etc. or the internal components.
Good quality magazines play a big part in reliability.
Chrome lining in the barrel plays a big part in durability.
LMT308 MWS
I agree on both accounts. FAL magazines lack nothing and in fact are more numerous around the world than any other 308 mag and I have tons of them. As for barrel, since I don’t plan on using it for war, I think that 4150 chomoly cryo treated is just fine. Just wondering about the other parts that are more likely to have issues, like BCG, trigger assembly, etc.
Don’t rule out the other competitors in the .308 line. FAL, M1A, HK. In my experience, those 3 have proven more reliable than an AR .308 sylte rifle.
all of them work. The ergonomics and accuracy of the AR design is so much better that todays, you sacrifice little in reliability for all that ergo and accuracy the AR has. I got rid of all my M1A’s, had two hk91’s got rid of those and kept one FAL. Because I love FAL’s, it is more nostalgia with me on the fal and in my case it was more reliable than the M1a or hk91. Accuracy was not great, but back then it was not so big a deal to me. These days I need the gun to be better than me:D
IMO, ergomonics is subjective to the shooter. Of all the .308’s I’ve owned, my DPMS AP4 .308, which was the NRA rifle of the year when I bought it, was an unreliable POS. Tried different mags, changed feel lip angles, different types of ammo, & it would contantly FTF/FTE. Accuracy was nothing to brag about either. I then bought a std M1A, PTR-91, & DSA FAL. All of the other 3 performed flawlessly. The PTR provided the best accuracy. I started shooting the PTR more often & the next time I shot the AR .308, I sold it. I have no interest in unreliable guns. I know stuff has come a long way since then for large caliber AR type rifles, but I feel no need to switch from the HK design at this point as it functions 100% & accuracy is awesome. I do love the AR platform in 5.56 though.
After much consideration, tomorrow I will go to the gun store and get the KAC SR-25 on order. Not sure at this point what suppressor and glass I will order to go with the rifle.
THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR THE HELP.
