Might want to rewrite your question…

Question on 223/5.56 75/77gr. hand loads that members find that
work well?

75 gr. Hornady Match, Winchester brass, 24 grs. Varget and CCI 400 primer.

60 gr. Hornady V-Max, Winchester brass, 26 grs. Winchester 748, CCI 400 primer.

i second the 75gr Hornady Match and 24gr. Varget.

It shot very well in my 1/7 Sig 556 and even in my 1/9 AR @100 yards. Im guessing the 1/9 wouldn’t do so well past 100.

Cool. Someone just gave me these bullets to load for him.

Yeah they were they best load out of the 5 different loads I tried out with the 2guns I had on hand. Actually I used 23.9 varget but my measure was throwing a lil on the heavy side so it was probably really close to 24.

I gotta tell you though, I’m VERY new to reloading (loaded ~300 rounds) so take what I say with a grain of salt. :stuck_out_tongue:

Pappabear Iphone’d me this pic of 69 gr SMKs shot from 85 yards. 23.0 grains of IMR 4064.

wow thats REALLY nice!!! I have 69SMK’s but the only powder i have right now is Varget.

Its kinda funny you posted that because i shot a 3 shot group exactly like that today but the other 2 were way off. That seems to be the norm for me-3-4 great shots and i screw the rest.

im gonna try to figure out how to post pics and if i do ill post a pic of it.

Hornady 75gr HPBT and 24gr Varget is Winner!

Here is today’s pic. I just tried 23.3Varget, 75 Hornady Match and I think it’s my new favorite. I didn’t get the best 5 shot groups but it seems to have potential if only I can get better. I’m satisfied considering the 556 isn’t known to be very accurate. What I just can’t figure out is why I can regularly place 3 shots touching each other and then muff the last 1 or 2 so bad. You guys think it the guns or me?

I ALWAYS throw the 4th or 5th shot off and I can’t figure out why. I don’t think it’s the barrel heating up bc it happens with all my rifles and I line about 10 targets (plates) up and quickly go down the line with 5 shot groups. So my barrel stays warm the whole time. I do know that I just put a Swiss style 552;
FH on my new 556 and it was vibrating loose to the point where I had to hand tighten it after every 5 shots. I guess it could maybe be a reason why my 4/5th shot was off. Idk.

Here is another botched group with my el cheapo 1/9 AR with 25.3 Varget and 69SMK. I haven’t tried these loads in my DD/BCM hybrid bc I’m waiting on a gas block and a few other things.

I seem to throw the first or fifth shot. The other four or nine will be great.

24.5 or 25 grs. Varget with Sierra 69 gr. MatchKings is a good combo in some rifles. My Winchester 70 loves the 69s with 24.5 grs. Varget and gives 2910 ft/sec. velocity with 5 round groups in the .3 to .5 inch range. This rifle likes the 53 gr. Sierra MatchKing, also, and does pretty well with the 65 gr. Sierra GameKings with .5 to .750 inch groups.

My Colt 6724 AR15 didn’t really like the 69s, but shoots the Hornady 60 gr. V-Max into .5 inches for five rounds and .8 inches for 10. Four ten round groups in continuous sequence averaged a hair over an inch with the 60 gr. V-Max over 26 grs. 748. Velocity is 3060 ft/sec. from the 24 inch barrel.

I’ve got Barnes 50, 53 and 55 grain bullets loaded and waiting for decent weather. Powder is TAC and Varget. One thing I find somewhat disconcerting on the Barnes…they have to be seated deep, unless one wants one of the grooves exposed. 2.180 to 2.190inches is overall length…

On paper, I tend to throw one (or more) high left, but it’s not the first shot - the first shot is the only one I check until the group i finished. I prefer to shoot off a bi-pod without a butt bag which might contribute; I dunno.

I usually don’t see this at long range, and as a result that’s where I sometimes see sub MOA 5 shot groups with the 77 SMKs. It’s a mental thing.

I like TAC and 77 SMKs. Group 1 & 2 are the same load except #2 is with new LC brass. Group 3 is the BH Mk262 commercial load.

5 consecutive shots at 700 Meters on my 12x18" pistol gong. Rare, but I get one like this from time to time if conditions are perfect.

77 gr SMK
Win Commercial brass
24.2 gr Reloder 15
Remington BR primer
2.260" OAL

Very accurate in all of my AR-15s. Currently shooting this load in 16", 18" and 20" barrel lengths. RL-15 is cleaner burning and gives a little more velocity over Varget.

Yeah I am gonna try something other than Varget it was just the 1st and only powder I’ve bought so far. One reason I want to try some other type is bc I stay well below the max listed load and the loads seem really hot compared to commercial .223 federal bulk. I’m kinda nervous to shoot say 25.0 Varget 69 SMK out of my new rifle bc it seems to be overworking it. I have no evidence other than comparing it to commercial .223 bc I don’t yet have a chrony. I know my scale is good and after shooting I inspected the lugs and other things and it was all good.

Is this normal?
