I added the details I like and can’t wait to shoot.
This is the 16 inch SS model with an NXS 2.5-10 x 32 mil-dot in a Larue SPR-S. I plan to do some desert shooting out to 1000 yards on steel to stretch her legs as far as she will go. Most of the time will be spent between 150-600 yards until I get out of California.
I am going to try the UBR to see how I like it. I have a CAR-10 Buffer from HeavyBuffers.com which should help with recoil and reliability. I plan to shoot prone quite a bit, but I don’t want to lose the utility nature by going as far as a PRS. I like the balance the UBR gives the rifle vs. the Sopmod or CTR. We’ll see if it suffices.
Other specs for the gun geeks… Stock trigger (I won’t swap until I see a need), BABC, Troy BUIS (I may go Dueck or KAC offset at some point if I ever see a need), Larue handstop, Atlas bipod, BCM gunfighter mod 3… That’s about it. It is heavy, but in a good solid way.
I do think you need some more substance in this thread so that it doesn’t get moved into a picture thread.
Lets here about the individual specs on it…(even though I know exactly what your packing as I will be packing damn near the exact same stuff), and perhaps tell us why you picked the kit you did for that beautiful MWS. What you intend to do with it, how far will your max effective range be, etc.
Than some more pics would be very much appreciated.
eta…
Lets here specifically about the UBR setup, as I intend to run one as well on mine eventually.
Such an awesome rifle, @ 600yds I would imagine that particular rifle will not even be warming up:cool:
Ive been staring at these rifles for 2yrs, and that is perhaps the finest specimen Ive seen to date…if you had a SDE trigger in it, I would give you the nod;)
I have really wanted an Atlas v8 for quite some time, however I just cannot ever justify the expense given a Harris brms w/ an ADM AD-BP mount is essentially perfect as is. I do honestly believe the Atlas is a touch above.
You got some serious coin invested in that super specimen.
Anyways, thanks for sharing your straight up world beating rifle with us…its as good as it gets in my book. Range report and more pics would be wonderful as well.
Thanks for the compliments. They are just things but they bring a lot of joy when I am able to use them with my friends. We have a group of Christian guys, called Brothers In Arms, in SoCal who shoot together and get together to hang out/learn.
By the way, I actually have an extra Atlas sitting around that they let me keep after accidentally shipping two out. Accu-shot has amazing customer service. If you want it, pm me your address and I will ship it out to you. It isn’t doing me any good and was free any way.
Yours is set up similar to mine, only I have a harris bipod and I just got the NF 2.5-10x32. I have not shot it yet but I am excited about the new scope. Have fun with yours!
I’m one step closer to cloning your awesome MWS above.
What ammo do you intend to shoot out of yours, I’m about to order some M118lr, xm62(feed the tracer addiction:D), TAP 155gr. amax, TAP 168gr amax, Fed GMM 168gr., Fed GMM 175gr., and BH’s 168gr. TSX.
Where are you finding the M118LR? I would also consider some of the Federal AE 168 grain M1A specific ammo - I’ve heard good things about it especially at $15-$17 a box…
I got some of the US Armorment stuff - it is just a knockoff of M118LR. I’ve heard the MWS really likes the real deal stuff (or at least the XM118LR) but can’t find any in stock. I know there was a run a couple years back where it was fairly easy to find but I haven’t seen it in great quantities since then.
Sweet looking boom stick you got there. Out of curiosity, why not go with the 18" barrel? If you’re shooting for precision at long distances, wouldn’t you gain a bit more accuracy?
It’s true that most of us like 18" barrels in .308 ARs (the route I went) but he is probably just going to be a few extra 100fps short for those 2" … but I don’t think that the accuracy would be improved going up to an 18" all things being equal.
From my experience the 7.62x51 sees it’s peak velocity at 24" (correct me if I am off)… but at 16" he should be just fine out to 700meters when the 175gr. bullet will begin to become trans-sonic and it will become harder to dope the wind at anything past that.
eta…after researching some more perhaps your correct, as it seems everyone calls their ammo m118lr…wtf, I wonder how you know if it’s the real deal lake city stuff or not. Maybe the headstamp??
Try putting a thousand rounds or so through it with the stock trigger - it is very good to start and will get better…If I’m not mistaken it is a KAC. It leaves nothing to a Geisselle imho.
