Well im like alittle kid and cant make up my mind on what I want to do with my gotta have SPR. I was going to go with a Vltor Mur and a Troy 13.5’ rail along with a CMMG Stainless 18’ barrel but now im kinda thinking the LMT MRP may be the way to go. Those that have them and those that have used them do you think they are worth the huge pile of $$ that it costs? Im a big LMT fan but the MRP is big LMT money
I love mine, do you have any specific questions?
They us Mike Rock barrels, so you do get what you pay for. I only use a 10.5" 5.56 and 11.5" 6.8 chrome lined barrels, but I have heard nothing but good things about the longer SS barrels. The one peice reciever will certaintly help you with accuracy.
If COLT had made the MRP…would we be having this discussion??
Whats that got to do with anything?
Hello nothing specifc I just wanted to hear what those who owned them had to say.
Thanks
Sorry for my previous “what if”…, my “trying to be humorous” point
was that “if” Colt had designed it, the MRP would of held by “the many”
as the ultimate weapon system 2nd to none…period, (IMO). But they didn’t.
I dought if you could find a more “ROCK SOLID” platform
to build a rifle from. That is what LMT is selling us and
with this ROCK SOLID platform there is a cost, a BIG cost.
Is it worth it…I say yes.
I think the LMT MRP is great, in fact I now own two of them, both sbr’s.
If Clot would release the 1020, we would not be having this discussion…
They use some of the best chrome lined barrels available, IMO. They have a lot of neat features like pinning the low profile gas block (on top), use an angled gas port hole, integrated sling swivels, a very robust and rigid one piece forging, Rock Creek barrels, a “quick change” barrel system, multiple calibers, multiple barrel and gas port lengths, a future option of a piston drive system, and provide a usable full length top rail for optics mounting.
The downsides are of course the entry fee, the fact that damaged rails can’t be replaced, and a little more weight.
I have had mine for nearly 3 years now…
I have run it through several carbine classes and I have never experienced a single rifle related malfunction ever. I purposely held off on cleaning my MRP for 2,000 rounds during one stretch without a single malfunction. (Only oil was added for maintenence during this period)
I carry my MRP with me at work everyday, and it has proven itself to be completely reliable, and I have 100% confidence in it.
Depending on what YOUR purpose for purchasing the MRP is, it is set-up to handle just about every conceivable configuration or purpose you can think of.
The only “con” that I can really think of is its weight. It is a little on the heavy side, but not overly so. having mentioned that, Its weight has never been a concern for me, but it may be for YOU.
If the MRP truly fits YOUR needs, get one!
LMT barrels are button rifled.
Don’t spread mis-information.
How well do they return to zero after changing barrels?
I bought mine because I couldn’t pass the deal. I have the CQB version with two 16" barrels (5.56 and 6.8), but I haven’t changed the barrels since I first fired it.
The weight as mentioned by nickdrak may pose a problem as I have a severe neck injury. I like the idea of using multiple barrels but I wonder if UI can afford to buy them all if things go siuth next year.
Just for clarification…
The MRP is similar in weight to any other comparably accessorized carbine outfitted with a rail system, etc.
Fixed it. I did not realize Rock Creek offered button rifling.
I own an LMT MRP (rifle length) and I have gotten rid of some of the other rifles I owned to go to good homes. I bought into the system concept as way to get into 6.8 cheaper than two complete uppers of excellent quality but it hurts the wallet for sure. I find I get about a half inch or less change at 100 yards. I own a 6.8 barrel 16 in and 2 5.56 barrels , one of which is the stainless steel 18 in. My Colt Govt Model A2 is just slightly less accurate for me at the same range. I love them both. The A2 is what I have been trained on but the MRP is definately the upgrade. I just bought a second LMT lower and I am considering the CQB length for SBR or the 10.5. Hope that helps some.
Nothing but good things to say about both of mine.

Had mine and put 6000 rounds in it since 2002. Nothin is weak about this playform. Rails will be buggered up with things like LaRue attachments…but it’s only a tool…not something you hang on your living room wall. The rails can not be damaged beyond use.
What would it take to gong the rails so badly as to bend or crack them? I’m not talking about dinging up a few of the notches…I’m talking about damaging the rail.
I hve no idea, but would imagine something like a HumV running over it with you attached to it). Call LMT in Milan, IL and ask them. All I can say is that I USE mine a lot, and don’t baby it and have had no problems.
I agree, you would break everything if you broke the rail, I was just trying to say that any of the damage done to the rail would damage the system as well.
