Laure vs. Vltor

Okay guys, I got a problem.

Grant is making me a noveske upper, but I can’t decide on which handguard to get. Do I go the Mur/Larue route or do I go with the Vltor Vis-3?

Cyrus

Problem? You don’t have no stinkin problem.

With out a doubt I’d go with the VIS. I’m a big fan of it’s modularity when it comes to barrels. For the purpose of magnified optics you would have more mount/ring options as well.

thanks guys, I’m gonna go with the VIS. My Fathers gonna kill me though.

Cyrus

There is one more choice.

I wish you guys would…

Throw a Daniel Defense in the mix too

The VIS is a solid choice, I don’t see you regretting that decision.

URX is not monolithic but can use an existing upper to cut cost. I like the VIS too other than the lower.

I was facing the same decision and decided to go with the Vltor.

Which Noveske barrel you going with?

I opted for the 16 inch.

Hopefully Grant will start mine soon as I can’t wait to get it!!

Noveske 16" with pinned gb, ionbond.

here’s what my upper is probably gonna look like when I get the optic, light and hardware:

Noveske 16.1" Recon Medium Contour Barrel, with Pinned GB, IONBOND.
AAC SPR/M4 three-prong Blackout Flash Hider.
Vltor VIS-3AK Monolithic Receiver.
BCM Carrier Assembly with Gas Key - Auto with CMT Mp Bolt.
PRI Gas Buster.
PRIs new front and rear buis.
Nightforce 1-4x24 in a Larue SPR mount.
Pentagon MS3R LED with a Larue mount upgrade and a 9-volt xenon conversion head.
Bobros new gen 2 bipod.
tangodown hardware (vfg, rail covers).

guys, give me your input.

Cyrus

Grant had built mine on vis3 and it is great.

what do ya guys think of the Larue Stealth?

Cyrus

I just ordered one of the LaRue uppers this past Friday, I’ll post pics and do a bit of a review.

I’m very much a newb around here, but I’ll still sure as heck pop up a newb level review.

…but the reason I steered clear in the end was some uncertainly of their design for an Suppressed, 11.5/12" SBR build. Namely, A3 (no M4 option) upper reciever design and lack of a chrome lined barel for heavy suppressed use. If I were looking for an ultra-accurate 18" SPR upper, I would not hesitate in the slightest. Also, I called a few times as I had some questions before I parted with $1,200 hard earned dollars and always felt as if I were imposing on them, like they were too busy to help me out. Hell, maybe they are, but you don’t get that when you call Noveske or Grant at G&R for that matter. There is no doubt Mark and his crew build great quality stuff, just seems as if their success has tainted their humble roots slightly - IMHO as a happy customer who has spent several thousand dollars so far this year with LaRue.

I meant the receiver.

okay, I’m gonna go with the Larue Stealth receiver and handguard mostly because of cost (I could hear my Dad sigh in relief when I told him it would be cheaper than the Vis). Here’s what my upper will look like now:

Noveske 16.1" Recon Medium Contour Barrel, with Pinned GB, IONBOND.
AAC SPR/M4 three-prong Blackout Flash Hider.
Larue M4 Stealth Upper Receiver.
Larue 12" Handguard.
BCM Carrier Assembly with Gas Key - Auto with CMT Mp Bolt.
PRI Gas Buster.
PRIs new front and rear buis.
Nightforce 1-4x24 in a Larue SPR mount.
Pentagon MS3R LED with a Larue mount upgrade and a 9-volt xenon conversion head.
Bobros new gen 2 bipod.
tangodown hardware (vfg, rail covers).

If you don’t mind no M4 feedramp, then no worries.

LaRue makes great products…enjoy!

I’m getting the one from Grant with the M4 feedramps and t-markings.
