LaRue vs. GG&G base/mount ?

The Larue and GG&G integrated base/mounts are the same price. They both seem well made. On what basis would I choose one over the other?

Specifics: Leupold 4.5=14 MkIII on top of an RRA 18" varminter.

Thank for any experience you have to share.

larue seems to be more popular and I haven’t had any complains with them…

although i’ve thought about gg&g. let’s wait for others to chime in.

You’ll find that there are more Larue fans as oppose to GG&G. Both companies make great gear but I’m more partial to Larue since they give all kinds of good schwag hahaha. Since they are both priced the same, I would just get the one that takes up less space and looks better in your opinion.

Larue for two reasons:

  1. All-american patriot that generously gives to the troops
  2. Free s**t with every purchase

Quality products and even better CS. IMHO there is no better.

Either mount will serve you well. The GG&G mount has the ability to accept flip-up lens covers, but weighs slightly more than the LaRue mount. The GG&G mount also gives you a slight cantilever effect, but the throw lever protrudes a little more from the side of the weapon than the lever on the LaRue mount. The GG&G mount is closer to an absolute co-witness than either of the LaRue mounts.

I live about 3 miles from LaRue and they make great stuff. I don’t have any personal experience with the GG&G gear, but if they are the same price I would go LaRue.

There is a third and fourth option. If you are using this on a Varminter I’m guessing you are not using BUIS so the QD features may not be necessary. RRA makes a scout rail for $70-80 and Burris just came out with a mount called P.E.R.P., not sure on the Burris price.

Larue is a no-brainer. They stand behind their stuff 110%, give you free stuff with every order, plain & simple they make the best stuff.

I’ll throw a wrench into the works and vote ADM.

Just as good as Larue, but without all of the drama. Hell, that ought to be their slogan.

Like others I have no experience with GGG, but just another + for LaRue. I have rolled with the mount holding my Leupold MRT for years now and 2 business trips downrange along with an ACOG mount for one trip. We also have LaRue mounts for a few of our .50’s with outstanding durability.

World class service from a great company.

I’m sure GGG is damn fine as well, try 'em out and post good things about them. If the product didn’t accomplish the supplied task, we proll wouldnt be talking about it here.

Another vote for LaRue. I have had products from both and both were GTG for what they were, but I liked dealing with Larue better and while I know it is just my imagination the LaRue felt like better quality.

It looks like a lot of people are making recommendations on items not related to your traditional scope.

The GG&G item that seems most relevant is the FLT Scope Mount.
The direct competitors would be the LaRue LT-104 and the ADM Recon.

I must preface this by saying that I have never used the GG&G FLT, but do have a few LaRue mounts and one ADM mount. I consider ADM and LaRue fairly well balanced as far as performance and quality.

If you want a QD mount, I personally prefer that the levers have a positive lock on them to prevent (reduce) the possibility of them getting snagged and opening, causing at best a shift in zero, and at worst a lost optic. It does not appear that the GG&G features a positive lock for the cam (I may be wrong, but I saw no mention of one on GG&G’s site), while both LaRue and ADM feature locks on theirs. Maybe someone can come along and clarify the issue.

However, if you are leaning toward the bolt-on FLT it won’t really matter much. I usually stick with what works and has worked for the most people, so I pretty much stick with LaRue and am trying out ADM to see how she goes.

Good luck.

I have the GG&G mount on my Troy MCS in conjunction with my Leupold Mark 4. It is a solid mount and when it is locked down it stays there. I don’t believe that the lock would be considered a “positive lock” but it is also not easy to just unlock. I am sure that it will serve your situation well.
