Larue or American Defense mount for aimpoint

I am trying to decide between these two mounts for an aimpoint on my AR (flattop with fixed front sight, 16 inch barrel). Looking for pros and cons of each

Chevy or Ford really. I have some of both and can’t really complain about either. You can’t beat Larue from a customer service standpoint but I think the ADM stuff will serve you well too.

What about the Wilcox mount?

Coo Coo LaRue says you have to have a throw lever mount, but I don’t agree.

I have an ADM mount. Its been perfect. I bought it for two reasons. 1. Price, 2. Mark Larue is pretty abrasive and I didn’t want to reward that.

I own more than one of each and you can’t go wrong with either one. In fact, IMO these are the only 2 options there are!

I own both. Both do the job extremely well.

But there is a fundamental difference. The LT lever cams directly against the underside edge of the rail, so you have a piece of metal rotating, and sliding, against an unlubricated area of anodized aluminum. I have three LT mounts (Aimpoint, EOTECH, and SPR) and all work on the same principle, using identical parts, and all leave a scar, in one case, a bright spot of bare aluminum, where the locking lever cams against the rail. It isn’t easily seem, and it doesn’t really harm the upper, but it does leave marks.

The ADM mount uses a camming motion also, but the friction of the camming motion acts against a piece of the mount itself, forcing a metal retainer against the rail and locking it in place. Ergo, no marks left on the upper. A better design, IMO.

The LT is more adjustable, down to the gnat’s ass. The ADM cannot be as finely tuned.

I lapped the rings of both mounts. The ring on the ADM was truer than the LT. None of my three LT mounts were very true, sad to say. But that was just mine. Yours may be different

I have one ADM mount, and I think I will choose the ADM again. It was a little cheaper too.

I had a Wilcox. Worked fine as long as it was left in place and screws were loctited. Sold it and got a LaRue because I could make a couple of bucks.

Good to know. I got a mount but haven’t deployed it yet.

If using a H1/T1 Aimpoint I’d recommend the Daniel Defense Micro mount. It’s about 1 oz lighter than the LaRue and about 2ozs lighter than an ADM.

If using a Aimpoint M4 or M4S or a 30mm Aimpoint take a good look at Bobro Engineering mounts. You won’t be disappointed.

For QD mounts, there are three very good options (LT, ADM and Bobro). I peronsally own all three and like all three.

On my main fighting weapon, I have gone to the ADM mount (am running an Aimpoint Micro). What I like about the ADM mount is that you do not have to have the lever that tight against the rail in order to retain zero (as the clamping surface is much larger). I also like that I do not have to have any tools to adjust the lever.

Have used LT, ADM and now Bobro. All solid products. If I were to rate them in preference:

  1. Bobro - So easy to use it’s ridiculous. Best QD mount I’ve ever used.
  2. ADM - Solid design. I like the fact that it provides full bearing surfaces against the rails
  3. LT - Solid design and never a problem/

owned em all and I have to say the Bobro is a work of art
not just the self adjusting clamping mechanism but the way he designed the bolts for the ring to clamp… just brilliant

I’m assuming that there are no issues with either the Larue or ADM retaining zero when they are removed and returned to the rail. I think I might be leaning towards the ADM only because the cam action does not go directly against the riser. Both companies are kind enough to give me a L.E. discount

I have a ADM on my Aimpoint micro. 3 range trips now it has held zero after removing it from the rifle. I have been removing the optic to keep it away from solvents when I clean and to also to test zero. So far so good. Grant hooked it up yet again!

I use a ADM mount for my Compact ACOG; I’ve removend/reinstalled the scope a few times to see if it retain zero and never had a problem so far.

I can turn out to be that for some folks.

Same thoughts here.

That’s why I went with a ADM. That and ADM had one with absolute co-witness.
I also have my own hats that are made in the USA for a big noggin like mine. I don’t need a tactical black grocery purse or a beer opener. I’ll take the less expensive sight and buy another box of ammo or something else that I will really use.

Same here again, except I have never personally tried the Bobro mount.

I chose the American Defense M4 mount, They sell both the Socom (1/3 co-witness) and the full co-witness spacers if one should decide to change & I like thier lever mount, the same as on my Tango Down VFG.
