John Chapman (Robert’s Ridge) MoH Winner - Controversy

Is anybody paying attention to this?

Yesterday, I watched a podcast from just four days ago with the full ISR footage and commentary regarding the battle and can’t understand how the US Navy SEALs argument against Chapman’s MoH can be substantiated.

For those in the know, what are your thoughts?

I am certainly not “in the know” but once it was determined that Chapman was getting a MoH the SEALs made sure one of their guys (Master Chief Slabinski) on the same mission got one too. Coincidence?

*I am NOT saying Slabinski didn’t deserve the MoH, but that it is somewhat related to Chapman’s getting one.

It would appear to me, from the Video that Chapman was hooking and jabbing all the way up that hill. He certainly didn’t “Die in the first Minute”
I watched an unedited version of the video and the autopsy says Chapman lived over an hour after the inital Gunshot.
There are statements that clearly do not follow the video.Chapman didn’t die getting off the Chopper and Bunker number1 (Called a Kitched by SEALs) was manned at the time Chapman Assaulted it.
Is there some Malarky going On in the Military Awards System? Oh Yes, there always has been.
The more concerning part to me is that Chapman was still alive a long time after those Guys abandoned Him.

Agreed ^^^

SEALs are best at covering their own asses..quite a few “heroic” missions where the results of poor planning or stupid decisions by leaders on the ground.

I’ll say Slab shouldn’t have received it. He left people behind, that should be the opposite of the MoH. SEALs and navy lied their backsides off to cover it up.

I appreciate the Ranger stories coming out about how badly certain SEALs goatroped missions. In particular, leaving ID cards on assaulted sites, not being able to carry their weapons and gear and making Rangers carry it for them up mountains, how many hostages they shot on hostage rescue missions (never mind grenading the girl in the tent who was yelling “I’m an American, I’m here”).

There are most certainly some rock solid SEAls, Monty from Centurion Arms is one (former team 7 guy, but my personal interactions in the field with them were not positive, nor are any of the stories I’ve heard from others.

I guess it’s a bit like cops, you don’t often hear about the good ones. It’s only bad experiences that people want to post about. Since I know cops that have run off and left their partners to die, and then got a medal for it, maybe that comparison is more spot on than I would care to admit.

An acquaintance of mine was a brigade CSM in the 101st in Afghanistan (the 2010-2011 rotation I believe). I recall him saying how his guys were tasked to assist a SEAL unit on an objective, no doubt pulling outer perimeter security while the HSLD guys went in. The SEALs called in an airstrike, got on a chopper, and flew off before the ordnance hit. The problem was they didn’t tell the 101st grunts about it! The bomb hit and IIRC like 9 guys were wounded (fortunately none were killed). Needless to say he doesn’t have a very high opinion of SEALs.

That is the definitive account. The DOD has basically lied.

Worth every minute of the 3.5 hrs. He presents a huge amount of evidence. Blows the official narrative out of the water.

There seems to be a reoccurring theme revolving around them caring only about themselves, and looking down on everyone else, including their betters.
