Jason Arday, a former University of Cambridge professor, was reportedly found dead in London on Friday, just days after resigning over questions surrounding his career.
Arday, a sociologist, was celebrated as the youngest ever Black professor at Cambridge until last month, when allegations of plagiarism in his academic work and questions surrounding claims about his athletic and fundraising accomplishments began to swirl in the media.
Cambridge initially stood by Arday when questions about his qualifications were raised publicly by the British press and a one-time philosophy researcher who left the university after his critique of diversity, equity and inclusion programs.
The university said at the time that the plagiarism allegations had been investigated by Liverpool John Moores University, which awarded Arday’s doctorate.
The university later opened an investigation into “new information” about his academic qualifications, “following new information about Professor Arday’s qualifications and honorary appointments,” it said in a statement.
Earlier this week, the university said that Durham and Glasgow Universities were also investigating the circumstances surrounding Arday’s academic posts there.
- I don’t know if anyone else has been following this, (but I was intrested because of something that happened earlier in my civilian career.) Anyway, this Guys story is so convoluted and mysterious that it was something out of a Comic Book and he was a Superman. His claims become mjore and more ludicrious until the entire story fell apart and he resigned.

The University of Cambridge is publicly calling the plagiarism allegations against Jason Arday “a vile campaign,” while newly surfaced archival records document that the signature charitable achievement at the heart of his public biography — raising more than £5 million (approximately $6.7 million USD) for charity — is contradicted by the only independently verifiable fundraising record from his early career: a 2010 JustGiving page that raised £6,285 for two charities.
From 2010 through mid-2025, Jason Arday’s public biography consistently described a man who combined scholarly achievement with extraordinary endurance athletics and large-scale philanthropy. Across TEDx talks, honorary doctorate ceremonies at multiple UK universities, speaker bureau listings, and profiles in major national newspapers, his charity fundraising total was stated as £4.5 million, then £5 million, then £5.5 million (approximately $5.7 million, $6.7 million, and $7.3 million USD respectively), with the figure rising between 2021 and 2024, as Benjamin Ryan’s Substack documents in detail.
The only independently verifiable record from his early fundraising career is a 2010 JustGiving page — still live — for a challenge in which Arday stated he ran 30 marathons in 35 days for Shelter and the Shooting Star Children’s Hospice. Total raised: £6,285, plus £1,045.77 in Gift Aid. A contemporaneous news report in the Richmond & Twickenham Times described him as having raised “more than £6,000” for the specific challenge and “more than £100,000” in total lifetime fundraising.
In September 2025, Times Higher Education reporter Jack Grove had completed a detailed investigation into Arday’s academic work. The investigation had produced a 63-page dossier of text comparisons. David Sanders, a biochemist at Purdue University in Indiana who contributes to Times Higher Education on academic misconduct, reviewed the dossier and offered his expert opinion: “There is no question that there is extensive plagiarism,” Sanders told Retraction Watch.
After Grove sent Arday a detailed email offering him an opportunity to respond, Times Higher Education received a letter from Carter-Ruck — the London law firm ranked Band 1 for Reputation Management by Chambers & Partners 2026, which Private Eye calls Carter-Fuck for its history of intimidating the press — stating that the allegations were false and would damage Arday’s reputation. The publication killed the story.
It would appear to me that someone needs to check their process for background checks and investigations, but hey, that’s just me.
That you allowed a corrupt system to build up a guy who had obvious mental issues until he was bound to get caught and then bound again to commit suicide.
