Insight Technology M6X - Have one? thoughts?

Hi,

I’m very interested in the light/laser combo of the Insight M6X. Before I spend the $$$ I wanted to see if others had thoughts , those who own it. There ARE some reviews on this link below, but was curious about reliabiltiy, range time, cheaper Pistol sights but good ones, etc…

I will be using this on my FNP 45 and my HK P30. Also I assume they fit all pistol rails?

Thanks,
Rob

Also, Optic Planet says 'SKU: IS-FL-M6X-M6X-000-A3 Model has been discontinued and no longer ’ so it refences the long gun version on the link… but i didn’t see on the manufacturer website its discontinued

This is light/laser combo I issued .

Its light, very durable, very high quality made, made in US

I got Xenon lamp version, we are continuing to buy xenons here because of some light quality/dispersion :secret::blink: issue in the fog or under deployment of tear-gas and/or smoke/flashbang grenades , don’t ask me why  I don’t know.:help:

You may consider led version.

Another thing to consider - its HUGE light/laser combo, you will have hard times finding a holster (Check out Safariland ALS)

Thank you for the response…I didn’t know it was that big, but yes would have to consider that and look for a new Holster. Good to know they are made in the US and that reliable.

I have a different Insight model and it seems very well-made so far. I believe L3 now owns Insight, same company that owns EOTech.

My brother has one with a rail grabber mount on a 1911. My dad has a 1913 mount tan one on a FNP45 Tactical. On both guns, at least for me, it is a little big and heavy for carry. The FNP45T was a special at his local dealer where it included the M6X and a tan MRDS; so with the optic, a light/laser, and 15 rounds of 45ACP; you can imagine how heavy it is.

Whether it is right for you depends on what your needs are. If it is a duty weapon light, finding a holster may be a challenge and the extra bulk can be an issue for carry. If it is for home defense, no issue as it is very easy to use and manipulate the controls. The only thing I would suggest is to get the 1913 mount as both your pistols have a real 1913 rail. The “universal” is really best for Glock rails and the “rail grabber” is best for a one gun solution that won’t be changed.

Since the FNP45 languishes unshot in a safe (let me shoot it ya old bastard!); my only hands-on with the M6X has been with the 1911. The function and quality are excellent and the controls are easy to use. The only drawback is the weight and it is not smooth to draw from a holster. My brother has the Edge-works G-Code modular holster and the extra bulk of the light and laser combo is noticable.

Having said all of that, I like Insight products. I have an M3X on a Glock as a nightstand gun and another on an M4A1 clone with the long-gun backplate and remote switch. They have always been reliable and are very sturdy. I was originally going to buy a Surefire light, but ended up with two M3X versions in trades so I stopped looking for the X300. I have spoken to a few friends that don’t like any of the Insight lights due to the plastic construction and claim that they will fail since they aren’t metal; but these same friends are happy to use a Surefire G2, or Pmags, or a Glock. There’s an error in the logic somewhere.

The only thing I might be leery of is Optics Planet as a sales outlet. I have heard that they have problems with managing stock and won’t tell you it is out of stock until after you order. I would opt buy from one of the site sponsors that sell Insight products as you would be dealing with someone who cares about their reputation here. I think G&R may sell Insight and also SKD.

Great comments and feedback from all. I carry the HK as my main CC but carry the FNP 45 for my hiking camping trips. Insight sounds like a reliable product and will look into that. Appreciate it!!

I have a M3x and a M6x. The M6 is nice except remember that when using a laser mounted low like that your laser could be off if your gun is canted at all.

They both work great though.

I’ve always wondered why the laser isn’t above the light…seems it’d be more accurate the closer to the barrel it was.

I’m issued one of these on a long gun.

I guess it’s better then no light at all, but I’m not particularly impressed by it.

I had the rail grabber mount crack.

You need to remove it, to change batteries, there by losing your zero.

The numerous switches on the back cover, not only get confusing, but they find themselves in the wrong position often.

The switching options are limited

I’m not a fan of having both my light and laser combined. If a switch or battery shits the bed, now I’m out 2 capabilities instead of one.

As noted, I think it would be a bit big & bulky for a pistol.

I’m not a fan of the M series in general. At a former employment, I was issued an M3, and it sucked out loud, constantly switching on and off under recoil.

I was issued a TLR also, better, buy mine also shit the bed for no reason.

I would get a SF X300 and be done with it, get a crimson trace if you need a laser.

ETA: I guess CT doesn’t make a laser for either of the HK P30 or FN
