I set up my Bushmaster with the help from this forum so I am asking advice for an other project. I purchased a Remington model 700 20" barrel, SPS Tactical with a Hogue stock .223. I have the Picatinny 4" base for the rifle. What would you guys recommend for a scope. It is going to be used for long rang shooting. Again I am looking for the best value and your opinions.
Well, for best value, it’s hard to beat the Bushnell Elite 3200 10x40. Very nice scope in the sub-$250 range. Actually, it’s the only sub-$500 scope I routinely recommend. I abused one for several years and never broke it. If you want to spend more than that, the options expand considerably. It’s not a S&B, USO, NF or even a Leupold…but a very serviceable piece of glass that will serve you quite well in my experience.
I use a Countersniper 3-25x56 on my Remington 700 in 300 win mag. It was $500 and holds up to everything I throw at it. Glass is clear at long ranges, first focal plane, and I saved over a grand considering the nightforce I was thinking of buying till I compared the two. Only complaint was that the reticle was a bit cluttered until I got used to it and now I like it just fine. Those are my two cents, rub em together if you like.

P.s. The Bushnell and Supersniper should hold up just fine too for your .223. If it is not a heavy hitting magnum caliber there are a lot of options that won’t break your bank or your scope.
They were at one point made by Tasco and then got a bad rap when the quality declined. SWFA now owns SS and the quality has improved. Glass is very clear and the scope is a great bargain.
Thanks, I work at Lejeune and I get a lot of impute, one recommendation I got today was Swift and Nikon. I guess I don’t understand the dramatic price differences in scopes. I know the entry level stuff is just cheaply made but it is the $400 to $2200 thing I have a hard time dissecting.
I really would have to say go with the Bushnell 3200 at the least… They are good optics that will take a good amount of abuse… But like the poster above said it is not a NF, Leupold,S&B,Trijicon or anything in that realm. As for me I went to the dark said after picking up a Trijicon ACOG I have a TA31F on my Armalite Middy HBAR and it is some of the best glass I have seen… I am looking into getting a SR. Im looking at getting a Remington XCR Tactical and I will be putting a Leupold on it (as of right now) but my mind is not made up… Once you use a good optic for a while you really cannot go back to a cheap POS. IMO at least spend as much on the optic as you do on the gun…
