As some of you might have seen, this came up in a recent thread. Anyone who owns a Magpul QD stock knows the pains of having their sling get tangled every time you move the rifle. And if you’re like me and don’t want to modify your stock, you might like this.
Take a piece of medium stiff rubber and cut out a little circle using a 9mm, .38, .357, or .380 bullet (the tail end), then stick that little circle down into the QD socket. If you sized it right, then it should stick to the sides and hold itself in place. Stick in the sling swivel, and that’s it. It really works! Pretty well I might add.
It still allows limited rotation so the sling moves with you depending on how the rifle is hanging and which direction the sling is being pulled, but it won’t move on its own through normal handling, such as taking it on and off. The thickness of the rubber, and it’s “springiness,” will determine how much friction there is.
I also found that you can stuff a rubber band or a piece of latex glove down in there, but it degrades pretty quickly.
