How far forward can you place a mount on an upper? Is it ok to dangle part of it off the front of the upper?
For instance, this LT-104 is mounted on a JP upper, dangling one position past the front end of the upper:

Is this OK?
I also tried two positions past the front end of the upper and that definitely didn’t look like a good idea since the locking lever would have just a partial purchase on the upper’s rail.
(the reason is I used to have this scope/mount on an MRP upper which has miles of rail real estate for me to place the mount, plus after taking some carbine classes I’ve modified my stance to be less bladed and shortened my stock position. Now I plan to use the optic on a new dedicated 3-gun JP upper and was hoping to be able to use the existing mount –– otherwise I’ll have to buy another of the longer eye-relief models. )
Thanks in advance!
