Several years ago, I wanted to give the AR platform a try. I bought an 18" rifle-length Doublestar. Shot it some, became disenfranchised with the build quality, sold it. Wanted better, bought a Spikes. Became disenchanted with hype and logo and questionable ethics. Sold Spikes. Sold seldom used Browning HiPower and FNX-9. Wanted the best, bought a Colt 6720.
Added Aimpoint H1 on DD mount, Noveske QD endplate (with I had stuck with factory endplate), BCM Mod4 CH, an IWC QD hand guard, Vickers sling, and chopped carry handle iron sight. Bought Eagle 3-pouch chest rig. Signing up for training course.

Thanks for the responses. I also meant to add, I’m currently at 6.6 pounds with empty mag and sling.
It’s not the plate, it’s the location. I hadn’t used it before and made the mistake of not using it ‘as is’. With the sling point there, it seems to pull the sling up into my face / cheekweld when I shoulder the weapon. I like the sling point much more at the end of the stock. There’s nothing wrong with the Noveske plate or design.
We all get there eventually. You path was shorter than mine, but longer than some. What matters is you got it sorted eventually. Congrats.
It’s in no small part due to folks like you and Grant and M4C who ‘spread the gospel’. My thanks to you.
Where’s your light?
Still deciding where to put one. I have a TLR1 and a G2LED. I just don’t know where I want to put it given the small amount of real estate. I keep my hand up on front of the handguard and shoot ‘thumb over’. I’m considering the MI FSB mount with the TLR1, just to preserve space. But not sure about weight/balance changes. (Input on that welcome).
I use the MI FSB mount an and X300 on the carbine I have with the 7.0 MOE and like the setup quite a bit. and I like that I can remove the light when I don’t need it, or move it to my pistol and back again if I should need to. Having one light for all my guns is extremely convenient IMO.
I have the MI FSB rail block with a G2 LED and VLTOR scout mount.
I like that it places the light up front so I have enough room to grasp the forward part of the handguard. I also shoot with my thumb over the top. I like the feel of the standard carbine handguard.
The disadvantage is that it is fairly heavy. I think it adds almost 0.5 pounds to the weapon. No experience with other weapon lights other than the G2 so I don’t know if there’s anything lighter.
It’s irksome that Magpul hasn’t devoted effort towards solving such an old problem. A lightweight FSB rail mount would be awesome. Or maybe polymer can’t handle the heat there?
I have the MI FSB mount as well. It’s noticeably heavy when just holding it on its own, but I don’t notice as much mounted. It seems unnecessarily heavy. They easily could’ve reduced the amount of material on/in it.
