I want to buy a new upper for my social AR. My current weapon is a 16" Bushy upper with a bull barrel and a 1/9 twist. Its a nice weapon and I have had a few issues with it, but they are all fixed. I have a spare lower that I will move this upper to so ultimately I am keeping this gun too.
I would like to buy a BCM upper but I cannot decide which direction to go. The purpose of this purchase is for a pure “combat” weapon. I am not concerned with shooting tight groups or varmints. What I want is the best upper I can get from BCM to be used as my go to rifle for defense.
I would prefer to have an A2 front sight post instead of a gas block and I would like to be able to fire the higher grain bullets offered in the 5.56 cartridge. I am thinking I would like to keep things as lightweight as possible so I am ok with a government profile barrel.
So it looks like I can get all of these features in either a 16" barrel and be able to easily change my FH and potentially screw on a can. Or I can go with a 14.5 barrel with a pinned FH and would have to get a can that would work with a specific FH once I go down the NFA yellow brick road.
So can you guys offer any advice in going with the 16" or 14.5" barrel? I already have a BCM BCG that will be moving into this rifle and will most likely pick up a BCM charging handle at the time of purchase.
Thanks in advance!
