Help me pick my first BCM Upper

I want to buy a new upper for my social AR. My current weapon is a 16" Bushy upper with a bull barrel and a 1/9 twist. Its a nice weapon and I have had a few issues with it, but they are all fixed. I have a spare lower that I will move this upper to so ultimately I am keeping this gun too.

I would like to buy a BCM upper but I cannot decide which direction to go. The purpose of this purchase is for a pure “combat” weapon. I am not concerned with shooting tight groups or varmints. What I want is the best upper I can get from BCM to be used as my go to rifle for defense.

I would prefer to have an A2 front sight post instead of a gas block and I would like to be able to fire the higher grain bullets offered in the 5.56 cartridge. I am thinking I would like to keep things as lightweight as possible so I am ok with a government profile barrel.

So it looks like I can get all of these features in either a 16" barrel and be able to easily change my FH and potentially screw on a can. Or I can go with a 14.5 barrel with a pinned FH and would have to get a can that would work with a specific FH once I go down the NFA yellow brick road.

So can you guys offer any advice in going with the 16" or 14.5" barrel? I already have a BCM BCG that will be moving into this rifle and will most likely pick up a BCM charging handle at the time of purchase.

Thanks in advance!

Heres a recent thread regarding 16" vs 14.5" pinned:

If you’d like a LW set up, go with the LW upper. Just decide if you want to go carbine or mid length system. If your BM is carbine, and that’s what you like, go LW carbine upper. The length is your preference. If you won’t be swapping muzzle devices, then in my opinion, the 14.5 would be the way to go. It’s a little shorter and a little lighter. Since you already have a 16", add something different and get the 14.5". Use the search. There’s a crap load of good info out there already.
Good luck
