Handguard replacement for Colt 6920

I can’t seem to find a suitable handguard replacemnt for my Colt 6920 with Magpul MOE handguard. The MOE handguard is just too bulky/awkward for me. I’m looking for a two piece keymod/m-lok handguard (preferably keymod since I have a 2 keymod rails already). I’ve checked midwest industries, but they only have the quad rails which if at all possible, I’d like to stay away from.

The big thing is I don’t want to remove or get rid of my FSP.

Edit: Ooops, forgot to specify I’d like it to be free floated. Sorry!

There is also the B5 drop in key mod hand guard.

Ack, forgot to specify I’d like it free floated. That’s the big kicker.

That’s a different story, I don’t believe at least not off the top of my head who makes something of that nature. Maybe someone else has though.

As far as I know, on the menu of “free float, two piece, and m-lok/keymod” it’s a “pick two” deal.

you may be looking for a unicorn at this moment. maybe next year key mod will catch up. here is free float without the other 2:

Centurion

Those 3 all make FSB-cutout carbine-length free-float rails (with the rail covering the bottom of the front sight base or extending beyond it) and do not require a proprietary barrel nut (meaning, just take off your existing handguard and/or grind off the delta ring). I would purchase any of those (in the above order).

Edit: just realized you need keymod/M-LOK. Looks like you’re kinda shit outta luck for now.

BCM would be filling a nice niche if they made an FSB KMR cutout…

You say the MOE hand guards are too bulky at the moment. Well most quad rails are going to be even more bulky than those MOE. Something to keep in mind.

What you are in search of is a 7" Carbine length free float hand guard that allows you to keep the FSB. You will have to remove the factory delta ring near the barrel nut, and front hand guard cup near the FSB. Then depending on the rail you select it may use your factory barrel nut, or require it be replaced (means removing the barrel and FSB). Those factory Colt FSB taper pins can be a real join to drive out, but honestly you are removing that FSB regardless unless you want to cut off that cup/delta ring.

It’s a slippery slope, make sure you full know what you are getting into.

Here is an example of what I’m talking about above. The Centurion C4 uses the factory barrel nut which is one reason it’s lower in cost.

And another option, the DD Omega rail.

Samson evolution. I believe you can get and extended version that has a gap for a carbine fsb.

Yeah there are more options if you want to extend around and past the factory FSB. I have the DD RIS II FSP on my M4A1 clone (Built on a LE6920).

Don’t forget the apex gator grip. They have both a carbine and midlength cutout version that utilizes the factory fsp. I just bought the midlength cutout and am very happy with it.

Another option if you want to keep the FSB, want to free-float without messing with the delta ring, and want a narrower profile is the Troy Delta Rail. Granted though, it is neither Keymod or MLok.

You could also consider the new MAGPUL MOE SL (slimline) Handguard in the interim until your desired rail hopefully comes to market. The MOE SL handguard is slimmer than the regular MOE you wish to change, is MLok compatible, partially shrouds the FSB, but is not free-floating.

The Troy Delta gives you everything you want other than Keymod.

I have one on my 6920 and am very pleased with it. It was simple to install and took less than 10 minutes. It gives you the real estate in front of the FSB and has built in QD sling sockets on each side. You will need to remove the sling swivel under the FSB.

ETA:

Just saw this in Recoil magazine. No experience with the company, but it meets all your requirements.

Thanks for all the replies. I ended up just going with the MI M-LOK 2 piece drop in. Its actually very well constructed. My only complaint is that the color is more like a burnt bronze than a FDE - there is definitely a metallic sheen to it. It definitely feels a lot better to hold and its actually quite a bit lighter than my old setup. I could never really get the MOE handguard to feel good in my hands (hands are on the smaller end) - I even tried an AFG and meh, didn’t feel good.

Here’s a pic next to a FDE magazine:

I too want a keymod setup, but want to retain the FSB.
I found this thread, where it was accomplished with some dremel work and some good luck:

It looks like VLTOR has what you are looking for with the freefloat + two piece design with KeyMod while retaining your standard FSP gas block.

If MOE’s aren’t skinny enough, get so e old school carbine handguards and a Mossie mount for a Surefire X300 ultra.
