handguard advice re: m-lok positions and integrated QD sockets

So I’m recreational shooter and enthusiast with much to learn. Finishing an 11.3 5.56 build (my first non-a2). Two basic questions on m-lok positions and integrated QD sockets:

1) For basic HD and recreational purposes, I’m not sure if I’d ever have any need for m-lok positions beyond t3,6,9? is this an ignorant assumption? 2) is having QD sockets near muzzle helpful? it seems less common on many handguards. I didn’t have a problem carrying or w/ hasty with basic gi swivels fwiw. Be easy on the new guy:D

I read a thread recently about some not wanting QD sockets near the muzzle to mount light as far forward as possible. Doesn’t seem like a big deal to me but maybe I don’t know what I don’t know :rolleyes:

You can get good quality mlok mountable QD sockets easily enough and mive them around as you see fit. Not having them built in wouldn’t make or break a rail for me. You can also get angled mounts for lights and such so not a huge deal if you don’t have mlok on all sides. But I do have one rail with only 3,6 and 9 o’clock mlok slots… I wish it had more say the 1 and 11 o’clock.

I suspect that depends how you set up your sling and how you build your rifle (or pistol).

I sometimes attach my sling further out towards the ends to apply more tension to stabilize the rifle. Other times I have the sling attached closer in / on the receiver end plate which allows easier manipulations like reloads but doesn’t lend itself as easily to tension for stability.
