Trick or Treating is a lost art. I escorted both my kids and my buddies kids through the neighborhood, but they all got bored after only a block. I noticed the the street cleared of any kids by about 1930 (on a Saturday night). Sad test of the times as I used to roam the streets until midnight and we never had to have our parents check our candy. I miss those candied apples and flammable costumes. Next year Halloween is on a Sunday, I will probably host a costume party for the kids and just keep Trick or Treating as an option.
I think it has to do more with the area than anything else. A few years ago my 'hood sucked as far as trick or treating goes but now there’s a lot more kids, a lot more younger families moving in and it was really a lot of fun this year. I took my son and the neighbor boy around while the wife and neighbor lady had the girls. We ran into hords of people and a lot more houses were decorated and the owners were sitting out front passing out candy and really taking an interest.
However, it did end abruptly at 8PM but that’s the city’s rules. I agree though, we used to run around until late and then go back out and carry on like jackasses! ![]()
I’ve seen 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later far too many times to tolerate ANYONE trying to “look scary” so I turn off all the lights and go to bed. Don’t understand “celebrating” Satanism’s Highest Holy Day anyways.
Last night was my girls’ first time out (one just turned 3 last week, one is 5 mo) and my first time ever too
Thankfully the weather was beautiful. We went to a couple organize wee-one centric activities first, then walked around with one of her little friends in their neighborhood.
Personally I think the whole thing is kind of stupid, but I’m a sellout for candy I guess.
Officially the dumbest thing I’ve read all week.
If the Satanists mis-appropriated it that is not our problem.
I agree with Shamdawg, Halloween is becoming a lost art. As far as Mjolnir’s response, your entitled to your opinion. Different strokes for different folks I suppose. As long as everyone had a safe Halloween, that’s all that matters.
you need to Goggle what you think is a satanic holy day.
it is Not satanic
Sometimes I think I live in a retirement community.
No trick or treaters.
Every year I go out with my daughter and she usually invites a friend, she is 12 years old this year. We have family over for pizza and a few soft drinks so nobody is left home alone to hand out candy. I finally got my wife to wear her pistol while opening the door to strangers wearing masks instead of it being “in the other room”. We don’t live in a high crime area, but it never hurts to be prepared. Last night the girls got 7 1/2 lbs. of candy, a new record.
Do you even know the origins of Halloween? Obviously not.
i was at a Halloween party all night, so i turned the lights off and left home. Did a quick check for eggs and broken things when i got home, and all was good. Maybe ill give out candy next year…
haha, touche.
That is an upside to the holiday, especially in my era (Im one year out of college).
Oh dear lord ![]()
Thats a great idea. I never thought of that.
I’m well aware of Samhain. I’m also well aware of Satanists’ Highest “Holy” Day. Now ask how is it the “holyday” is celebrated today. Witches, Gremlins, Zombies, Vampires, Ghouls, etc. Not exactly like it originally was…
I’ll simply free will choose to pass, thank ya’ll much.
You are aware that Satanists don’t actually believe in satan and there aren’t any witches (except for the wicca variety which are no more dangerous than hippies), gremlins, zombies, vampires and ghouls right?
You are of course free to not celebrate, but to call it Satan’s Holy Day is gross stupidity.
O rly?
You look at a 300 pound chick wearing a slutty nurse outfit and her 350 pound friend in a skimpy bunny costume in the checkout line at Wal-Mart and THEN try to tell me the devil isn’t involved.
I’ve showered and I’ve showered and I still feel unclean.
Now that looks like a fun Halloween party. I would probably leave the wife and kiddies at home though…JK
