How’s everyone’s night going so far? I’m on candy detail and having some thoughts on Halloween, and reminiscing about my days as a kid. I remember running the streets wild with my friends and lack of parents. Now a days with the fear of child kidnapping and child predators, communities are having parking lot trick or treating with police presence. Costumes are okay, nothing too scary. I’m waiting for the old high school punks to come on by, I got a nice piece of small candy for them. And much larger bags of candy for the little ones.
I’m on house duty too, while the woman and the boy are out wrangling candy. I only wish they had taken the dog as she goes nuts everytime there’s a knock at the door.
Too many, way too many, store-bought costumes for my tastes. Not much originality either. So far I’ve gotten almost entirely little tiny ones and ones that look too big to me.
I live right in the middle of a 45k pop town, and we only get 5-10 groups a year come through. I always give lots to the little kids, and this year is my twins 1st year out @ 3 1/2 YO.
It’s raining here in MD so I figure it would discourages parents from taking their kids out. Lots of vans with their hazards on escorting their kids around the neighborhood. A lot of these kids are coming from other neighborhoods in the area, as there aren’t a whole lot of kids in mine. The costumes here are looking more like they were thrown together at home, as oppose to being store bought. I had one kid with his dad wearing his Taekwondo uniform, and did a bow as a thank you.
I think if I lived in a small town or area, I would get bigger bags of candy. I’m just afraid of running out and getting my house egged ![]()
Nobody has knocked on my door yet.
…of course, that may have something to do with the swine flu warning I posted on the front door.
Knock, knock. ![]()

I’m at work
Nice lol. When I was in Iraq, my folks left a basket outside (rookie mistake) for the trick or treaters and went out with their friends. They came back home with all the candy gone, eggs on the house and windows, and chocolate syrup on the cars. Needless to say now that I’m back home and out of the Marines, I am at home with my glock and flashlight standing guard tonight.
i had porch detail tonight and had alot of fun. With the shaved dome…some white and black face paint, and my trench coat…“Uncle Fester” was home. had at least 3 little kids that refused to come up the stairs lol; so i would bring the candy to them.
good neighborhood, with good mix of kids. Most of them know the house so they make sure to hit us up. We’re about 2 blocks off the main candy strip and those houses get hammered hard. Fortunately in our area…kids can still be kids.
Took the little ones around collecting candy and spent the rest of the evening brushing teeth!
Haha Uncle Fester!
Little kids are the best because they are in the spirit and happy. First kids arrived at 1900 and last kids (more like 17 year old girls) rang the bell at 2100. Hopefully there are no more kids because I’m almost out of candy, I did a perimeter check along with the vehicles, all clear. Now I’m sitting watching “Taken”
Happy Halloween everybody
I took the kids out, while the wife handed out candy. I made the mistake of taking my six year old daughter into a “haunted garage” to trick or treat. It was a little too scary for her.
I might get stuck sleeping on the floor of her room tonight.
My little girl isn’t quite 1 yet, so no trick or treating for her; maybe next year. That didn’t prevent us from dressing her up though.
I’ve been handing out candy. I like the little kids who just walk right in when you open the door, like they own the place. There’s always a mom hovering in the background who says “Oh, Jack! Come back here!”
Simply Adorable! Yep I had a youngster (about 6) walk right into the doorway looking at my candy bowl asking if that was all the candy I had haha.
Had one dipshit who was about 35 years old actually have the nerve to come up to me tonight, hold out a bag and say “trick or treat.”
Had it not been for the fact that he was with his two very little girls I’d have told him to fuck right off. Glad to see an adult taking his kids trick or treating, but I buy candy for the kids not the grown ups.
Normally I give these retards pencils, but I forgot to go buy a pack this year.
I was on porch duty while my wife and son foraged for sweets.
In my time between door knockers, I made pumpkin seeds and discovered LaRue Dillo Dust is a great seasoning for them.![]()
well sat here buy myself:( ,No trick or treat I live on a dead end out in the middle of now where.wife took her kids and her sisters kids on the candy hunt.I just watched horror movies and Lubed my M4(wife can’t stand the smell.)I Hope all had a happy halloween. Now guess what guys !!!we have to start thinking of christmas gifts now.
My boy (6 3/4) was dressed as an old west marshall. We bought the black cowboy hat and some toy guns (his SAA was lost) (lever action and a fake SAA – the SAA is now mine but he can check it out to play with it whenever he wants – it was a $16 cap gun that I don’t want getting lost). And the badge. He wore a white shirt and vest and a red bandana. Jeans and brown leather shoes since we did not have boots. He looked real good. He was pleased. Next year he wants to be Godzilla. We’ll see if that lasts… We don’t do store bought costumes. Most of them look stupid.
The girl (1 3/4) was dressed as a fairy. Her grandma bought a closeout white dress and some dollar store wings and had some sort of head garland thing. Enough to melt your heart.
We went before it was dark in our old neighborhood (my folks’ neighborhood as we lived in an apartment in their house) – our daughter did not want to stick the candy in the bag – she held on to it for dear life. Finally when she could hold no more she stuck it in the bag. Was pretty funny.
We sped home as it was getting dark and I took the both of them to a few neighbors on our street and then dropped the girl off with the wife who was on candy duty and took the boy to the next street over where we have lots of friends and people from church and we did that street before we had to hurry home as the wife had to go in tonight for a night shift – someone was covering the first 2 hours of her normal 12 hour shift – RN at the coronary ICU. The boy is not a big candy eater and he was happy to do what we did. The girl is a big candy eater and we have to watch out for her.
The wife said a few groups of kids came by. After the wife left we had a couple more groups come by. Nothing after 2100 until one group rang a few times after 2200… I then turned out the porch light for an hour (I normally leave it on all night for security). We live in a 4 year old subdivision way on the west side of town out in the boondocks. I hope we did not miss too many kids before we got home from my parents’ neighborhood…
We have candy for next year (sweet tarts and hard candy that does not go bad
)

Last year when my daughter was about 3/4 year old we dressed her in a japanese jacket thingy we got from my sister in law (wife is from Japan) – some sort of festive costume from their town that her boy wore when he was small for some festival and took her out to a few houses in my folks’ neighborhood. I confiscated most of the candy she got – she did not know the difference – but we had to show her off to our old neighbors since she was born after we moved. And had to show off our son as well as he had grown some in the intervening year and a half…
Mine freaked out at a house with some skeletons hanging from the trees, and they had some animated stuff on the porch. There were 3 people also on the porch dressed like pirates. The one I was holding his hand took one look, dropped his bag, and tried to take off down the sidewalk. He would not take one step on their property, and was screaming bloody murder.
They also tried to go in a couple people’s houses…haha…
So far we had quite a few more people this year than last. However between leftovers from our hand outs and what our boys got the entire bowl in filled to the top.
I still don’t get the friggin older teenagers and up wanting candy. Its for the little kids idiots not you grown ass people. Go buy your own candy. Next year will be ketchup packets and maybe cans of green beans or something stupid like that for them.
