Guns for Giftcards

For those of you who live in Fla. I’'m sure you’ve seen this or heard of this. In Brevard County (Daytona Beach area) the Sheriff’s dept was collecting people’s guns voluntarily. In exchange for your gun a $50 Walmart giftcard was given. Sounds cool sure. Especially if you have an old clunker (for cash). Watching the news today thats exactly what it appeared to be. People were brining in torn up beat up bastard bubba guns and getting cash for them. Now I’m sure there were a few guns that were of some value but these pics they showed looked like hunks of junk. And, they spoke of some guns that were used in crimes with filed off serial numbers and those that have previously been dusted for prints. To say the least it was very interesting. Now if you have a bastard bubba gun thats just collecting dust that couldn’t be worth more than $10 this was a great deal…it’s just too bad that the news try to portray it as a big win for getting guns off the street.

If they were serious about a “buy back”. they would make it $500.
Then, you could differentiate between serious and non-serious gun
owners. And I could get rid of a few junkers. Would it make for
“safer streets” ? Nope. Locking up law breakers for a very long time
would make for safer streets.

Hell, if they made it $500, Hi-Point would take the lead in gun sales overnight! Hell, I’d buy one to turn in for $500. (pssst, that’s why they don’t make it $500 ;))

Now that’s a stimulus package idea!!

well from what i have understood in the past is they dont hold those turning them in accountable, i think they should take down names and current addresses and maybe they could actually catch some folks.

I believe it was Volusia County, not Brevard (they’re too busy cranking them out in this county :D). I’ve been heard about it for days on the local news channel and again driving to work on the radio . . . promptly turned to another station, I hate getting to work in a bad mood.

Funny thing though, on the footage I’ve seen, there have been quite a few air rifles (one looked a lot like a Daisy 880 I had back up north) and at least one airsoft gun complete with blaze-orange tip. Same news story said in the last gun buy back, they only recovered one stolen one and I don’t remember hearing anything about recovering any guns used in crimes.

hell yeah turn in a old junk gun get 50 bucks go to wally world and get 50 bucks in ammo(if you can find it)

Volusia my bad! And yea I saw the air rifles on tv as well. How stupid. I woulda turned my pellet guns in for $50 if I knew that.

They mentioned a handgun that was implicated in a crime, dusted for prints with the powder still on it.

hmm… can a gun possibly be worth less than $50?

i think i’ll buy a bunch of gift cards from local stores and put an add in the newspaper/craislist/nickle ads/etc… maybe even make up a retarded website, like “SafeOregonStreets.org” and make myself out to be a non-profit org, without stating that i am.

i bet you could make a mint

i’ll even offer to come pick the gun up at your location… just drop me an email- ben@safeoregonstreets.org i’ll give you a call, and we can schedule a day.

“Safe Oregon Streets is devoted to cleaning up Oregon of unwanted, dangerous guns. Keep our children safe by emailing us- one of our gun-disposal specialists will even come remove the gun from your location, and give you a $50 gift card from your choice of local stores. SafeOregonStreets.org- keeping our streets safe for our children!”

Usually they run out of money before we run out of junk.

They are doing it in orlando also. They are calling it the “KIX FOR GUNS” program. Turn in a gun and get a new pair of Nike,Reebok,e.t.c. Local radio station and Orlando P.D. involved. They are doing it today at the central florida fairgrounds, same place that we have our guns shows…lol

s.m.

You ain’t kidding. I’m sure I could kick up a couple of $10 air pistols that don’t work anymore to turn in for a $50 gift card.

Don,t be surprised if one day this Commie in the White house and his Acorn community organizers, come knocking on your door demanding your guns without a $50.00 gift card. In fifty + years I have never been afraid for this Great Nation as I am now. Rember we are just a speck of the real informed who know and care about whats relay happening to our rights and way of life.:frowning:

Patriot

Gun show at the fairgrounds next weekend too!! So everyone can sport their new kicks at the show while purchasing a new fire arm!!!

You hit the nail on the head. This only offers mostly law-abiding citizens a $50 dollar wal-mart giftcard to disarm them and make them easier targets for criminals.

It’s stupid, just plain ol’ stupid.

However, I’d like to attend one of these events one time and offer someone $51 cash money for some of the stuff they are brining in. You know, eventually, some idiot is going to bring a valuable firearm there. I’d fork out $51 dollars for a decent firearm any day of the week.
