GSG 1911 22 lr

Does anyone here have the GSG 1911 22 lr pistol? I really like mine. After a few bobbles within the first 100 rounds or so it has straightened out and runs perfect now. It is very accurate. It comes with three front sight and I as most people have found out that you need to use the taller of the three. Fit and finish is very good. Magazines are a bit expensive at around $32.00 to $35.00. I looked at the Colt/Umerex and the Chiappa also. The Colt/Umerex was more costly and didn’t seem to be made any better, seemed to come down to a matter of paying for the name. The Chiappa did not seem to be made as good. The back (looking at it from the rear) of the slide and frame fit had plenty of gaps and did not look at all like a 1911. I have heard the accuracy with the Chiappa is pretty good though.

I’ve owned a GSG since January and really like it. Mine doesn’t like weaker Am Eagle 38-grain ammo in the second-from-the-top in any of the magazines that I have for it. I spoke with a 'smith at ATI about that he recommended slightly stretching the mag springs but I’ve not tried that because the pistol has functioned without a hiccup when using Blazer ammo.

A buddy of mine looked at the Umarex as well as the GSG. One downside to the Umarex is that the barrel is permanently fixed to the frame so if something happens to the barrel, the barrel and frame are toast. On top of that, the GSG was less expensive. So he bought the GSG and likes it a lot.

For what it’s worth, I put some VZ grips on mine and the right panel didn’t work with the stock ambi safety. I replaced the safety with a Wilson ambi and the grip panel fit correctly.

The GSG is a nice pistol and I’m glad that you like yours.

Mine had the dreaded 2nd round symptom but I did the spring stretch and it cured both magazines and they have been 100% since then. Mine shoots very good with the Winchester 555 or the Winchester 333. It did very well with the Federal Auto Match as also. Remington 550 bulk box stuff wasn’t very good in it. I rounded the back of the left side thumb safety as I didn’t like the squared off look on the back end of it. I also took the magazine safety out.

I’ve had my GSG since Feb, and I’ve put close to 3000 rounds through it. It’s pretty much ran 100% through all of those rounds (only 3 FTF’s, but I blame the ammo).

I have one of the ‘older’ models before they changed the guide rod, and I’ve never had any issues.

My only advice is that if you want it to be accurate, you need to dial in the sights first (most of them shoot high-right out of the box) and then get a better/tighter barrel bushing and modify it to fit onto the GSG slide. Then your groupings past 20 yards will be tight.

I had to install the taller of the three sights to get mine zeroed at 25 yds. My bushing is fit pretty good already so it is good to go, they will surprise you with their accuracy.

The early GSG’s had a non-steel barrel bushing and they are apparently prone to breakage. If you call ATI (the U.S. importer of the GSG products), they will send a steel bushing to you free of charge.

I have one with all the “steel” upgrades. It shoots great and it is fun. I didn’t like the drab brown grip panels so I put some nicer grips on.

I’ve got one as well and love it! For being a cheap gun, it’s got a great trigger and feels like pretty decent quality. I also had to put the tallest front sight on it to get it zeroed but other than that it’s been great.

Whats the slide/frame made out of? Steel or aluminium…looks like a great gun but only handled one at a show!

I got mine last week but I have not had the opportunity to shoot it yet. I am hoping to be able to get it out soon as its driving me nuts having a new firearm and not shooting it yet.

SO far seems really nice and well balanced, feels good and they say it has 80% interchangeable parts.

I believe it is a steel slide.

the slide is aluminum and the frame is a zinc alloy. with the recoil generated by the 22 lr, it should be just fine.

I bought one in june. I have about 2000 rounds thru it without a hicup. Great cheap gun for fun plinking

I’ve got one too and have so far put a brick of cheap Federal bulk through it. Have yet to clean the gun. No jams so far, but a couple of FTF where the brass has been struck, so I chalk that up to cheap ammo. Every once in a while, the gun will fail to pick up the next round in the magazine when cycling, but after racking the slide it has always picked up the round. Got the tactical model with rail and threaded barrel from PSA for $330, so I have no complaints. Very accurate and handles just like my Colt.
