How often should the slide lock spring be changed? I have a G23 Gen 4 that has an occasional issue with the slide just “sliding forward” when it shouldn’t during dry firing. When i press down the slide lock with my finger (when the slide is off) it feels like their is a lot of play in the spring (loose compared to my other Gen 4 Glock’s slide lock spring, which is stiffer). Also, I have 2500 rounds through this particular Glock. Thanks for the help.
Is your slide lock in backwards?
I assume you mean the slide lock and NOT the slide stop aka release?
Yes, it is the “slide lock spring” that I question. The slide lock is not in backwards. I’m questioning the strength of the spring. The slide should NEVER slide forward past the locking block and almost fall off.
Hello,
I have had to replace my slide lock spring in my gen 4 23 as well, for problems just like you described. I have a round count similar to you. Is your 23 an earlier gen 4? (mine was purchased fall of 2010) I read that the spring was updated (not from an official source though) and I ordered a new one. Side by side the new spring and old spring look different. Wish I had pics to post, there are some floating around the internet though. For a few dollars, might be worth it to buy a new one, or perhaps glock will take care of it. Seems like that spring should last a little longer, just my opinion. Good luck!
