Hey guys, I did read back through several older threads about the Gen 4 Glock 19’s but they were mostly from a long while back. For those of you with experience, have most of the bugs been worked out on these? Do you guys think it’s proven itself (the gen 4 g19 specifically) worthy of reliably defending ones life?
I drink the koolaid of no brands or anything and I’m finding it hard to gather information from people who aren’t Glock-or-Die people, or Glock haters for some reason. I think this board has a lot of professionals who use this type of equipment frequently. I was looking at the M&P9 too, it was my #1 choice for a while, I just keep going back to the Glock for some reason.
Though I don’t have firsthand experience, I asked this same question on another board. I was advised to look for Gen 2 or earlier Gen 3 guns for now. Gen4s are coming along, but aren’t quite there yet.
Try reading this thread, though started awhile back its as up to date as any. Its pretty much updated daily by someone, most of whom are “shooters” of the Gen4.
I have a Gen4G19 purchased in July. I’m currently at the 3300 round
mark approx 3100 of which is 115gr ammo with no malfunctions
so far. I get about 1 to 3 case ejections to 5:30-6:00 every 200-300
round session most of which are over my head.
The Gen4 is my most accurate G19 (even though my other 4 Gen3 G19’s have Ghost Rocket 3.5 triggers) and has become my primary
G19 carry gun.
My experience (luck maybe?) is not typical as you will find after reading. As I said I have 4 other G19’s and as such can afford to have problems with the Gen4 if they arise.
The situation as it stands now I recommend either waiting till the issues are ironed out or purchase a Gen3 if you need a glock now.
One other question (for now), my local range has a Glock 22 I can rent since I’ve never shot a Glock in my life. Would that give me at least a basic idea of whether I’d enjoy the Glock 19 or not, with the grip angle etc?
I thought an 03 spring (or was it the 4?.. the lighter one) and a lonewolf extractor solved everything.
FWIW, my brother(member here) has a gen 4 g19. he had a couple FTE when it was cold out with weak fed ammo. I think with a broken in gun, new extractor and quality ammo, there should be no problem. That said, I dont own one (yet) and dont know all the details with the problems.
as a side note, watch who you take advice from in real life. I had a guy come up to me at the range, said hes writting a book about guns. He said “if [i] get a glock make sure [i] get a gen4 'cause it solves a lot of problems people have been having with the older ones.” I wont be buying that book:rolleyes:
I would personally wait a few months before purchasing to allow Glock time to work through their extractor & spring issues. Probably not a huge probability you will get one that does not function properly but why chance it?
I own multiple Glocks and they are all Gen III on purpose. That’s my .02 anyway.
I’m sort of surprised any range wouldn’t have a Glock 19 for rent.
You might want to try to shoot a Glock 17 (9mm) instead if you can instead of the Glock 22 (.40), since the recoil profile of .40 is a little different from 9mm. Also, a Glock 23 (.40) is the identical frame size to the Glock 19.
At the least, you will get a feel for the trigger and ergos of the full-sized Glock 22, I suppose.
+1 on this. I bought my gen 4 G17 in April and qualified with it 2 days later without any problems (shot a 98 btw, a whole lot better than the 88-92 that I always seemed to get out of my gen 3 G22 ;)).
Went through the voluntary recall just to be on the safe side, and to date have had zero issues so far. I would trust it with my life, which I do every night that I’m on patrol.
Yeah I wish I could find a more similar model but they will only rent out used guns, and that’s the only used Glock they have (there are about 6-8 used XD’s there interestingly).
Also, regarding the voluntary recall, it appears that if I bought a gen 4 G19 it wouldn’t be covered by that since we have passed the July 22, 2011 date that they say they are covering to. I wonder if there is any way to be sure I’m getting an 04 recoil spring when purchasing online, and how much the 04 RSA costs if I don’t end up with one?
Our two early G4 G19s have run great but still, if I were buying now, I’d study up on the threads showing pics of the new EJECTOR and just make sure the gun I picked out had that. It’ll be the most up to date gun available.
When buying online, is there any way at all to verify that before paying for the firearm and having it shipped to the FFL? I’m still considering some other options, but the size of the G19 is one of the things that makes it just about perfect for me…now if only the one Glock I really care for had that ‘legendary’ Glock reliability…
I put 610 rds through mine using the new RSA and had two malfunctions. I can’t get the new ejector unless I go without my pistol for at least a month. I’d stay away, personally.
No, and they won’t even ship the part to Glock armorers!
I’m pissed. My old 0-4 spring dribbled cases out the top and occasionally towards my eyes but the new super duper 0-4-3 RSA gave me two malfunctions today. This is with a polished extractor and the White Sound HRED setup that you saw me shoot besides you at that last Vickers Advanced class.
I’d say fuck Glock and buy a P30 but I saw two of those shit the bed multiple times today too!
At least it didn’t malfunction when I earned my FAST pin :dance3:
