Gemtech Tundra repair

I’ve got a Gemtech Tundra that’s had a baffle strike. I sent it to S&W (twice) and after telling me it wasn’t one of their cans, they sent it back saying that it was too old to service.

I’ve been looking at other options and found:

  • Silencer Service (in WY)
  • Shaw Armament (in GA)

Who both say they can repair it. Anyone have experience, good or bad, with either company?

How bad is the strike? Sometimes it’s better just to run it with a little damage.

I know Gemtech gave credit to Pappabear towards available cans when he returned his to the factory. Not sure if they still offer that option.

Check with Ecco Machine.

Shaw is right down the road from me and I’m in the same boat (trying to get reviews locally) but to convert my Sig SRD762TI direct thread to a hub mount system.

I think I contacted them earlier this spring and it was a no-go. Don’t remember the reasons.

They may be full.

End cap look okay but the group size opened up too much for me to consider it useable. Can’t reliably hold C-zone even at 10yds.

No love from S&W. Gemtech was a solid company. Thoroughly unimpressed with the S&W owned version.

Communicated with them, filled out the RMA sheet, sent the can in. Got an “item received” email. A few weeks later I got a shipping notification. Can arrived back at the house with a note saying it’s not one of theirs and they don’t service other manufacturers cans.

Communicated with them again and pointed out that it is a Gemtech can, albeit older. They said send it back in. Shipped it in with a note asking to be contacted with options for repair and the costs. No communication from S&W, but a few weeks later I received a shipping notification. Can arrived back at the house with a sheet saying the can is too old to service. Roughly three months of time wasted and communication throughout was… not good.

To close the loop, I sent the can to Scott’s Silencer Service in WY.

I’m very happy with the results. Two 15yd groups pictured, one with the can (low right) and one without (center).
