Geissele G2S installation issue

I’m having trouble installing the hammer pin on a G2S trigger. I’ve tried starting from both the left and right sides of the receiver and it’s getting stuck on the pin retainer. I tried test fitting the parts off the receiver and it seems the retainer is very tight. I can’t get the pin past the cross bar. I even tried to insert a slave pin but that didn’t work either. Should I use a hammer to try and punch it through, try and open up the retainer a bit with needle nose pliers or something else? This is a factory SBR and I don’t want to bubba up the lower or hammer. I’ve got an email out to Geissele but thought I’d check here as well.

are you sure it’s really getting stuck? Also, make sure the safety is off when installing.

I have installed literally hundreds of G2S triggers. First, make sure the pin retainer is installed correctly and yes, you may use a hammer to punch it through. I usually use the wooden handle of my hammer to punch the pin through the retainer and the lower. These triggers are a little of a pain to install but it is one of my favorite Geissele triggers!

Yes, the hammer pin will not fit through the retainer. I’ve tried it off the lower and it just won’t budge. Take the retainer out and the whole assembly fits but the pin will walk without it. For those not familiar with the G2S, it uses a unique method to retain the hammer pin. Here’s the instructions.

Thanks, I’ll give it a shot. I thought I might be able to get it through with just my bare hands but I’ll give it a tap with my screw driver. I think the retainer is installed correctly as it’s flush with the side of the hammer and drops into the lower easily.

When I did mine, I installed it from the left side. Once it was most of the way through, I tapped it with the plastic end of the hammer and knocked it in place.

I’ve always had to hammer my pins too

Glad to read that. I did the exact same thing despite the instructions seeming to indicate that you’re supposed to put it in from the right. It just didn’t seem like trying to pass all of the grooves on the pin through the retainer made sense. It was also easier to get everything in line without fighting the retainer the whole time.

Thanks, guys. I put it in through the left side and a couple taps with a rubber mallet and wood block and it was through. It didn’t take nearly the amount of force I thought it would.

Different retention but a great trigger to be sure.
