Went to the CT SWAT Challenge yesterday to see some buddies competing and such, and to look at all the gear from the many vendors. Here’s a few pics:

I don’t have much experience with the SCAR, but by most accounts the 17 is an excellent and would be on my short list in 7.62.

Sometimes “military” is whats needed. The PD I used to work for obtained an MRAP for our bomb squad guys, but wimpy powers to be gave the vehicle back because its too militaristic. Liked the pics, I found myself saying " got one of those, got one of those, need one of those"…
They most likely realized maintenance would bankrupt them if they wanted to keep it running. They should stick with something like a Bearcat and call it a day.
I left my wallet locked in my car for a reason believe me. 
Which is what people say about civilians have ARs and so forth. Many don’t feel either LE or civilians should have access to .50 BMG. So, my line as to what LE should have access to is very wide personally. I will say, what’s likely to be of real benefits to civilians and LE as far as $$ spent? A truck like that or more training on the range for LEO? I’d say that latter by miles.
I don’t feel such a vehicle should be off limits to some PDs who could have a use for it in extremis situations, but I do think it’s likely $$ poorly spent when budgets are tight.
