A few weeks ago I ordered a barrel from Rainier Arms and a BCM gas block to go along with it. I had them pin the gas block to the barrel and when I received my order I noticed that the block wasn’t fully seated against the shelf. In the pictures I’ve included you can clearly see the hole for the pin is seamless meaning that that’s the location it would be in if I drove the pin in. I’m wondering if this is acceptable? I tried to remove the gas block but it’s very tight and I don’t have the proper tools with me (college apt). So what are your thoughts?
It would probably still function if the block was flush on the shoulder because the inlet on the block is typically much larger than the port in the barrel. But where they’ve pinned it should put the block dead center over the port.
I see. That’s why I tried to remove the block to see where the port on the barrel and the port on the block were but it’s such a good fit that it wouldn’t budge. Good to know though. I should have know Rainier knew what they were doing! Excellent work. Thanks for the help!
The gap they left is there for a reason. Meant to accomodate a front cap used for plastic hanguards.
No need to change a thing!
What barrel did you get?
That’s what I’m hoping for. The barrel is far more capable than I am, but it’s a tool that I’m excited to work and learn with. Once I get it built I’ll post it up.
As long as the ion is in and the port hole in the barrel matches the one in the block you are golden my friend. Looks done properly as I just did one myself.
And if you want to remove the block out some oil on the barrel around the block and try to twist it. If you just wanna see if they are aligned just use a paper clip
My Rainier SS Medcon looks exactly the same. There’s a small gap between the barrel “shelf” and the body of the gas block. Works just fine. Go shoot it.
