Im tryin to deceide which to get… I like that the LED has 12 hrs of runtime but i hear that the regular g2 has a more powerful beam… ive seen a reg g2 before and it was rediculously bright. Is the LED just as bright? i hear the LED has more of a flood effect and the regular g2 has a more powerful focused light… any expericence with these?
I own several G2L’s and have noticed (at least to my eyes) that the output of the LEDs is brighter than the incandescent. There is also the benefit of a shock resistant lamp assembly when using the LED. I’m telling ya now, LEDs are the way of the future…
The standard G2 puts out 65 lumens with the standard bulb, 120 lumens with the high output bulb. The G2L puts out 80 lumens.
Just get the LED lamp, you won’t be disapointed.
I have three, G2’s
One with the LED head, one with the HO lamp and the other with the regular lamp which wandered off with my niece at my sisters place so I left it with her.
The output of the LED is awesome…even when compared to the HO lamp…All with fresh batteries.
Made me do some more research and also get a Fenix…
Did the lowlight class last weekend with a hand held G2Led and it was perfect for interior house clearing type work.

I’ve replaced all but one of my G2 lamps with (inexpensive) Cree drop-in modules and I’m very pleased with them. They produce an almost insane amount of light and “throw” is easily as good or better than the original lamp.
Think of the LED conversion or the cost increase of getting a new light as an investment. The long term savings in batteries will pay for itself. Besides, it’s a better light.
Where does one get one of these fancy units? Last I saw you had to order them from Japan.
There are a lot of P60 LED drop ins for a Surefire 6P or G2. Some are expensive and are of better quality and some are cheap Chinese made products. Here is a link to an overview:

I have recently tried the new Cree R2 dropin from Deal Extreme. For $15, and free shipping, this cheap Chinese drop in really impressed me. I did have to remove the outer spring to get it to fit right in my G2. I believe that it is a little bit brighter than the Surefire P60L.

Just keep in mind that the LED technology is rapidly improving. Every year there will be brighter LEDs that come out.

It’s hard to keep up with all the lights coming out these days. Initially I wanted the Fenix TK10 due to the output, but realized that there were tons of drop-ins for the G2.
This I believe gets me close to TK10 output while allowing for future drop-in upgrades, more tail switch options, and slightly less weight on the end of the gun.

i think i’m going with the G2L but i’m curious about different mounting options. i want either a mount with throw levers so i can remove and use as handheld, maybe mount when i need it. or a mount i can remove the light from all together quickly. what kind of options for this light are there? i saw a surefire mount that was quick release but cant find many details about it.
I bolted a Tdi rail on my standard hand guards. I used a Tdi mound which fast attached. It worked fine. Although if using it for a hand held was my goal, I’d just buy another flash light.
I liked the fast attach because I could take it off during day time shoots.
I really like the G2L (current model w/aluminum bezel) with a Malkoff Devices M60 high output drop-in. Although the chinese made CREE drop-ins put out alot of light, I would not use one on a “Go-To” gun as they are cheap, and the QC on the Chinese made units is less than satisfactory. You dont want your light going down when you really need it. There are no guarantees that the more expensive, US assembled Malkoff unit wont fail either, but it is really built like a tank. I have three of the Malkoff units, and am 100% satisfied with them.
As for as mounts go, I really like the V-Tac light mount. It is cheap, but its solid as hell and puts the light in a nice position. If you really need a QD light mount to remove it from your rifle, the LaRue QD mount is nice, and there are plenty of other options for easily removable light mounts.

He frequently goes out of stock on his drop-ins, but usually has some more available within a week or so.
The versions I have are the humble $11.95 versions made in Japan and sold through www.dealextreme.com (see a preceding message from delta1067 for more links). So far, no problems. I have one in my primary light that I keep on my belt (reserved for emergencies), the light I carry in my pocket at home, and the light I carry in my hand when I go out at night or won’t arrive home until after dark (all are G2 SureFires).
I also have a variety of the cheap, but insanely bright flashlights using the same or similar LED emitters available from www.dealextreme.com. Gear snobs will eschew them as cheap junk, but for utility use, you can’t really beat them. If you lose one or break it, so what? You just get another. The biggest problem is selecting which one you want … they all seem virtually identical at first glance, then it gets tough to sort-out the details when you investigate more closely. Several of them will put out at least 120 lumens using two CR123A batteries with more lifetime on the batteries than a 65 lumen SureFire. I have one with a head/reflector that is a couple of millimeters larger in diameter than most similar lights and the throw on it is impressive outside at night.
I Recently placed a G2L on my Troy Rail using a Daniel Defense Offset light mount ($47.00) The mount places the light in a good position for use with a VFG. This is a great setup for around $100. If you are talking about removing the light for other work, just drop the coin for another G2 ($35.00) and keep the G2L as your dedicated light.
is there a fast detach device with throw levers maybe that can hold this light?
Yes. The LT offset mount and if you just want to be able to remove the light quickly, the SF M79 is a good choice.

my want is something i can fast attach or detach, throw lever would be great but only ones i’ve seen like that are mounted to light? maybe i should just go that route. i dont plan to run light all the time, i cant think of many reasons beside maybe home defense i would need it.
