G19 Gen4, mp9c g26

Hi guys,

I will get some extra money that I can use for other pistol…

I have a mp9 FS, I use this for IDPA… I only have 4 months with this … I like it. shoot smoth, feel less recoil, more comfortable(for me)

I have Galco holster and the grip doesnt seem to be a big problem, only the width. I live in miami so it is summer almost all the time…I usually dont use jacket and a smaller gun should be better.

and in the other hand I would like to test any other handgun… and I would like any pistol what I forget I am carrying…

I was thinking about a .40 but as I have a 9mm it could be better and cheaper having other 9mm, so the ammo is cheaper and I dont have to buy 9 and .40 ammo.

When I go the the range I shoot around 200/300 rounds and 100 rounds for IDPA. again a 9mm could be good for my wallet jeje

I feel the mp smoother than glock and feel less recoil but I have read the new Gen 4 glock are smooth too, because of the double spring…

the m&p9c could be good because I already have the same platform…but the difference in heigh between G19 and m&p9c isnt so much…

[mod note: do not post pictures you do not own without permission per https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=59662]

the g26 is good too but is not so comfortable cause I cant have a good grip with all my fingers…

I would go this weekend to the range and rent the m&pC and glock 26 again but I dont know any range where I can rent any glock GEN 4…

anyone have shoot a g19 gen 4? is the recoil and muzzle flip smooth like a m&p9?

Thanks

Surprise… seeing one of my images here. Glad it’s useful to you, but I wouldn’t mind a request for use in future. Thanks.

Ha Ha nice LOL I guess you never know what you’ll find or where.

This isnt what you wanted to hear(otherwise you wouldnt have started this thread), but do a search. This is a weekly topic here.

The general consensus is going to be stick with the M&P and stick with the same caliber. If you already had a Glock it would be stick with a Glock. If you already had .40 stick with .40. Etc…

Here is my preference order: M&P 9, Glock 19, M&P 9C, Glock 26.

I prefer full sized grips to subcompact grips, and I prefer the M&P over Glock.

Between the Gen 4 19 and the regular M&P 9, the M&P is flatter shooting. The 9C is about like the Gen 4 19.

Between the 9C and a G19, I prefer the Glock 19 because of the full size grip. I can perform reloads without having to severely adjust my grip, with the 9C, there is a lot of meat to get caught in between the mag and the base of the grip

Great post.

I had alot of trouble manipulating my 9c sans thumb safety. Once i got a 9c with a thumb safety it allowed me to get a little more purchase on the gun despite the lack of a pinky on the actual grip during reloads and malfunction clearing.

If you’re not going to roll with a thumb safety 9c i would say go for a Gen 4 G19. Easier to manipulate, not necessarily easier to shoot but we all know that its easy to shoot, its harder to keep a gun up and running efficiently.

Thanks guys.

I think I wont buy the g26 or m&p9c for now…

But I am thinking about the glock 19 gen4. I have my m&p9 FS, I would like to shoot a different pistol. But I am not sure if this worth to get other 9mm similar in size to what I have. or maybe just keep using my m&p9.

what do you folk think, having experience with both pistol?

That’s a very good move in my view. The G19 is a fair bit smaller than the full size M&Ps. I like the M&Ps in .40, but I prefer the Glocks in 9mm.

The G19 Gen4 has got to be the ultimate do-all 9mm pistol. Fantastic size and capacity, very easy to carry concealed, use the 15+1 when carrying, use the 17+1 when at home. Use a G17 mag for reload when carrying. Shoots beautifully. My G26 sees almost no use. My G19 is my go-to 9mm and I love the gun!

I just bought a G17 RTF2 on Friday and must say that I really like it, the grip is fantastic, and it shoots well. But if I had to choose between a G19 and a G17, I’d definitely go with the G19.

The only thing the G17 offers over the G19 is 2 rounds, something which the G19 can match by use of the G17 mag… you just have a bit of exposed mag area below the grip that is otherwise covered by the grip with the G17.

The G19 is the 9mm that can do it all… add in the new Gen4 grip and it’s a no brainer. No need for stippling, nor for skateboard tape, nor rubber grip accessories… the Gen4 grip bites into the hand magnificently and feels awesome.

thanks guys.

I will save some money this week and maybe the next mony buy a gen4. I dont know any range where they rent any glock gen 4 yet, I would like shoot one before buying.

Anyone else feel the difference in recoil /muzzle flip with gen3, gen4 and/or m&p 9?

I shoot a gen3 and m&p 9 and I can feel the difference, mp9 has less recoil/muzzle f and I can shoot faster, and smooth… but I dont know about the gen4 with its dual spring.

MP9–Don’t be STUPID like most idiots on the internet.

Purchase a SECOND pistol identical to the one you already practice with and use that for your carry pistol as noted in this thread: https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=70567. You will likely be better off learning to truly master one type of pistol and not switching between different platforms.

With the background information you provided, that would mean purchasing a second M&P9 or possibly an M&P9c. Skip the gen 4 G19.

Doc… your suggestions always carry a lot of weight and I agree with you on this… I don’t think there’s any dispute that for developing maximum skills, sticking with one platform and caliber is the best, quickest, and least expensive approach. But determining which platform really suits you can definitely take more than a few rental sessions at the range.

MP9 did say he would like to shoot a different pistol and given that, I think the G19 is a great candidate for that.

There is an upside to buying, shooting, and living with different platforms for an extended evaluation period: you can get more extensive experience to more thoroughly determine which platform really works best for you. Shooting a gun under different conditions, with a variety of ammo, gaining experience carrying it over a period of time, working with accessories, cleaning and maintenance, etc. is more telling than a few rental sessions at the range can be.

Granted it’s not inexpensive to do this, and one must be able to afford the green to own and evaluate various guns… duplicating numerous magazine sets, leather, etc. gets expensive. But quality guns kept in top condition are pretty easy to turn without significant loss. And what financial loss there may be has been translated into valuable direct experience/education.

Sticking with the platform and caliber he has been working with is certainly very sound advise and would not be a mistake by any means.

All I would add is that if the OP can afford to buy and extensively evaluate the Glock as well, he would be able to better determine which platform really suits him the most and then settle in on that for the long haul, whether it be Glock, M&P, or something else. He might find that for whatever reason, the Gen 4 Glock really helps him shoot better and works better for him… or not. Either way, the experience wouldn’t be a bad one, provided the funds allow it.

Just one approach… not the only one, though. And a major downside to having too many guns, different gun types, and different calibers is that you aren’t likely to get enough experience shooting and handling them to become highly skilled with them and prove their reliability. Even though I have quite a variety of guns myself, I spend most of my shooting time focusing on just a couple of them.

The old adage about “beware of the guy who only owns one gun” is a very good one! He likely is very good with that one gun! Smart not to spread oneself too thin on different platforms and calibers… but the exploration can help to find the best fit for oneself and it is enjoyable to check them out.

Very true, I once took a class with a 9c and stopped counting the number of times I pinched my hand doing fast reloads.

I second this post and throw in Todd Green’s SIMP post for good measure.

Since you like the M&P9 it would make sense to get an M&P9c.
There’s no way you’re going to CCW a M&P9 all the time in Miami.

G19 is a great pistol–I have carried one for 15+ years. If the OP prefers, sell the M&P9 and get two G19’s…

I believe the Glock is a great idea change is a part of life. Enjoy your new gun whatever you buy OP. I have several Glocks and enjoy each one in a different way.
