Frangible?

Anyone have any experience they can share as to what’s the best frangible 5.56/.223 on the market?

Best for what? The only fragile ammo I shot was some 40gr bvac stuff that wasn’t too inacurate, but extremely weak. Tula 223 never hicupped in my gun and this stuff would ft feed every 3 rds.

Shoothouse work. Not looking to use this for real world, just training.

I have not heard of any that is any good.

Sounds like reliability is all you need. I’d just try a few boxes and see what works, sorry I can’t recommend anything.

Definitely get some of that stuff that has the thin jacket. Not just the compressed copper/sintered whatever bullet without a jacket.

My PD has had mixed results with our 1/9 twist barrels and frangible. Our latest batch of Winchester frangible keyholes badly. I would buy a few boxes and test it in your rifles before spending a lot of money

I’ve had good success with Federal XM556NT1 through my SBRs but only shoot Black Hills RRLP suppressed.

Let me know if you need a source on the federal 50gr 5.56 fragible stuff. I have a lot of the frangible because the shoothouses at Academi require it.

Mk255, Mk311 for mil loads if you can get them. XM556NT1 or Federal RHT (#BC223NT5) on the commercial side.

That’s good stuff. I couldn’t remember the designation off the top of my head. But I’ve used that stuff.

Barnes varmint grenades good stuff makes a mess of anything it hits

Extreme fragmentation, but definitely contact Barnes and the owner of the shoothouse before using it as OP intends.

What frangible bullet would you say would be good for shooting steel Withan AR at close range (10 yards and further)? I’ve started looking at the Barnes RRLP and MPG. I just bought a box of Sinterfire(Waiting for it to arrive), but it looks like it is just compressed copper/tin and no jacket. I have heard that these types of bullets may break apart due to the weapon cycling.

Any info is appreciated.

I’ve been shooting the Cesaroni 22 Cal 50gr Lead-Free Frangible Bullets – 250 ct

I got a box or two from Ravenrocksprecision and now they’re out of stock. These bullets are great and have that partial jacket. I went to re-order a bunch more yesterday. :frowning: I hope they come available again.

I’ve shot a lot of steel silhouettesat that range with standard M193, no issues as long as the steel is leaned forward.

M193 is brutal on steel. When I don’t have frangible for shorter distances I try to shoot at least a 69 gr weight bullet to reduce velocity. But on the flip side, I don’t want to burn up 77 or 85 gr OTMs that are better valued for long range.

If the Cesaronis are available againt I’ll stock up. I didn’t think too many other shooters would buy them and assumed I could get them any time I got the urge.

American Reloading has the good 5.56 frangible projos, but they’re pull downs. I ordered 2k because they were $117 delivered/$0.058 per bullet. I’d sworn that supplier off, but I want a stash of close range blaster. Fingers crossed that they’re in good shape.
