Fort Hood Locked down again

I just heard on the local news that Hood is locked down again. Threatening called received at Fort Hood so they initiated a partial lock down. Call came in after “Family time” release so no disruption to the Soldiers (unless you want to get on post). This weekend is a four day so it would be hard for an attacker to get at a formation of Soldiers.

What I read:

Threatening phone call closes Fort Hood

FORT HOOD, Texas (KXAN) –Fort Hood has enacted “precautionary security measures” that are preventing traffic from making its way on post following a threatening phone call that was made to the post

Well with two mass shootings under their belt the base would be insane not to take any threat as credible.

Back in the 60’s and even up until the 70’s, if a student at a university did not study before a final they could simply call in a bomb threat from a pay phone and the school would shutdown for the day.

Maybe someone just didn’t want to go to work today?

Today is Thursday. Family time started at 1500 and all soldiers were released prior to that. Sounds like the lock down started around 1600. Hood should have been pretty empty by then. You can’t take any threats lightly though. Tomorrow should be a training holiday so this action doesn’t hurt the post at all.

Well that nixes that idea.

Arming military police with a rifle or shotgun would make them more effective–for all the obvious reasons–in defeating an armed assailant. Too, this move should stir almost no controversy

Agreed. Some of the military personnel on the base should have the tools to protect our troops. Army personnel have enough to stress about concerning upcoming and past deployments without having to worry about this sort of thing.

Stay safe down there, folks.
