I have spent some time on here trying to become more educated on the SBR process (lots of good info here) as I have decided that a 10.5" or 11.5" AR-15 will enhance my home defense. I am interested in purchasing a factory SBR but am unable to determine what companies produce factory SBR’s. I am most interested in Noveske, LMT and Colt but unsure if they offer sales to private citizens. I would contact the manufacturers directly but am currently working overseas and telephone access is a problem. Besides, want to hear from those with an opinion on the brands I listed. Thanks in advance and stay safe.
All 3 companies do and all 3 are good to go. Colt has the 11.5" barrel model 6933, Noveske has a factory 10.5" and 12.5", and LMT has a factory 10.5" barrel SBR. All are available to private citizens.
I have two Colt 6933s and think they’re the best thing Colt makes.
If you’re looking to switch between suppressed/unsuppressed, it’s hard to argue with the Noveske w/ Switchblock.
A number of manufactures offer factory SBRs’ to private individuals including the following not mentioned. There are probably a number of others as well. I have both a 10.5" LMT MRP and a 12.5" Noveske with the switchblock. Both are outstanding and have run really well. Here are a couple of pics.
Bravo Company (BCM)
Daniel Defense
Larue Tactical
Knights Armament
Rock River Arms
Sabre Defense
Spikes Tactical
10.5" LMT MRP

12.5" Noveske with switchblock

A couple more Colt factory SBRs that may be harder to find.
6921 CQB, 1:7, 10.5"
6921 SP, 1:7, 10"
This is one of my all time favorite AR’s…has been for several yrs. so that should be a testament to how reliable it must be. Nothing like a lil’ porn in the A.M. to get me going;)
Finding a dealer in your home state who has one will make it less of a hastle.
I would just buy a Colt lower, register it myself, and pick up a 6933 upper to pin onto it.
I bought my first SBR from G&R it is an awesome deal and an awesome little gun. It is turn key even includes a GI mag and sling.

My second SBR is the 11.5" BCM it is a great gun at a great price

I wish I went the SBR route earlier. I sold several carbines and just have the two SBR’s and a spare LMT lower that will likely turn into another SBR VIA a form 1. The first two were factory guns.
Thanks to all who posted, I just need to get home to get the ball rolling on a SBR purchase. I enjoyed the pictures, good stuff.
Is there a data base that compares the weights of factory SBR’s that anyone is aware of? I wouldn’t imagine the weight differences are tremendous between models but curious what type of difference there might be between one with a light barrel and round hand guards and one with a heavier barrel profile and maybe a 9" rail if anyone has an idea.
I bought a factory BCM SBR from Grant at G&R. It was an easy transaction at a very reasonable price.
Weight differences are pretty negligible. The balance of the gun will have more of an effect on the perceived weight.
So if you hang a bunch of stuff on the rail, a heavier stock set up tends to balance it out.
OP
Robs has a rail chart too. Both my SBRs now wear MOE handguards they what I need for less ylthan $100 total.
POF, LWRC SBR’s also.
You said HD situation. Keep in mind that a 10.5 or 11.5 barrel is going to be extremely loud with a concussion and flash. If you wake up and shoot a BG you will be hard of hearing for a while and maybe some hearing loss. A better trade than death but you could also choose a different weapon and/or a suppressor. I thought about the same thing. Check some youtube on the differences.
Grossman’s ON COMBAT provides evidence that contradicts all of these old beliefs.
I’m not going to flat out say you’re wrong… but there’s real world accounts and evidence that contradicts what you’re saying.
(It’s a good book too ;))
Longer barrel will be quieter with less flash and recoil.
SBR’s are loud and obnoxious. Ever been next to one?
I will back up your statement on the issue based upon experience. In the moment, the mind and body finds ways to protect itself and stay in the fight. Non issue regarding SBR sound from me.
I am not worried about it. I am worried about saving lives.
If a suppressor is an option run with it. It is not an option for me in VT. There may be info out there comparing 16" vs. 11" noise or concussion. It’s a lot more fun being behind the SBR than next to it but in a self defense situation I do not realistically think more than a few shots will be fired. Even if it’s 20 or 30 you will be ok.
We can play what if all day, it’s not going to change anything.
Yes. There’s no question that a shorter barrel is louder. Flash and recoild are of negligible difference however.
Not sure who you’re asking, but I have been next to them. I even own them. And I deploy an 11.5 SBR with no silencer for Home Defense.
I am not knocking the SBR HD. Just wanted to provide some info for the guy researching it. Hey it might do double duty. Shoot one BG and blow the eardrums off the guy next to him.
Thanks again to all who posted replies to this thread. I am not too terribly concerned about the noise but keep a pair of Peltor ComTac headphones in my nightstand for the scenario where I have to check out a “strange noise in the house”. Might be a long shot that an adversary will allow me the time to don them but their ability to amplify sounds is potentially a pretty big tactical advantage.
In my experience the noise of your weapon or your team mates weapon firing isn’t that big of a deal although a Para Saw being fired inside an up armored vehicle will startle the hell out of you if the operator fails to holler “engaging”, no joy.
Does anybody else keep a pair of Peltor’s nearby, or I am the only one on this board that prepared (err… paranoid)?
