I love my esse! First time I cleaned a deer with mine I whiped the blade off and re holstered it over night. When I removed it the next day it had rust all over the non-painted areas. I sanded the rust down and have made sure to always have oil on it from then on.

What do you guys use to sharpen these/prohibit rust? I’ve been having a hell of a time keeping rust of of my Izula II…
Vaseline, EZOX, motor oil… Will keep rust off the sharpened edges decently.
Eezox is the best rust preventative I know of but others like Boeshield or Birchwood Casey might work pretty well. you just have to remember to reapply after use…
Love ESEE knives. I have an Izula, Izula II, 2 ESEE 3’s, 2 ESEE 4’s, an ESEE 6 with another on the way, and their Lite Machete. I think the Izula II and the 6 are my favorites. The 3 is awesome too.
Here’s my 6.

My Izula II.

That and it doesn’t have the legendary Rowen heat treat.
Yep, I’m a member of the Rat Pack too! Mine is an RC3 and I keep it in my emergency bag in the Jeep. Great knife…
What did you like about the Izula II over the 3? Just fit in your hand better?
I wouldn’t necessarily say I like the Izula II over the the 3, I just find that it’s a more useful size for day to day tasks. Since I use it more often, I tend to be a little more fond of it. My 3MIL rides in my car emergency bag and gets pulled out every once in a while to see some use. I really like the 6 as a camp knife. I can do just about anything I need to in the woods with a folding saw, pocket knife, and the ESEE-6.
I did recently put aftermarket scales on the Izula II, and I must say, it does feel better in the hand than the 3. The handle width of the 3 is a little narrow and can get uncomfortable after extended use. I have aftermarket scales on all of my users except my 3MIL since the aftermarket scales would cover the sharpened pommel.

ESEE are great quality, I have a Junglas and it is the best made large knife I’ve had.
Design of most ESEE’s are excellent for production knives in this price range, they think of everything from grip materials, to ergos, to balance, to blade contours. Although not strictly necessary and some users overdo this, I also like that they give you the ability to remove the grips. As someone said, I have no concerns with the 1095 steel even though it’s not a super steel: although it may not hold an edge as LONG as some super steels, the 1095 blade is incredibly tough and robust and will resist breakage a lot better than many super-expensive super-steels used in knife blades. Finally as stated, 1095 is easy to keep a good edge on.
The previous recommendations of Eezox and Boeshield are good. CorrosionX is close to those two in rust protection, although I’d probably favor Boeshield if something is going to sit in long-term storage–it’s quite good at that. Because CorrosionX is a better combined protectant + lube than the other two, and because I have plenty on hand, it’s what I prefer.
i carry my ESEE 3 almost daily and i really like it. enough blade for most all chores i need a sturdy knife for, and enough handle for a good firm grasp.
i did order it as a knife only, desert tan, and had a leather sheath made for it. the combo doesnt look spooky to folks around here, and being in a rural farming community, a basic fixed blade on a guys hip really doesnt draw much attention.

Ordered my ESEE 6 with the Clip Point today.
Super stoked for that second edge to perform more medial, less important cutting tasks, and not having to use the main blade. Whether it’s cord, wet/dry rope, opening things, etc. Nice to have that double edge too, in case I get tackled by a Malaysian Taper. Makes one heck of a pig sticker.
Just ordered my first esee today, a 3mil, and it should be here around Friday!
I love my ESEE4. I changed to a larger handle and it fits me like a custom. I also made a leather sheath just because I love leather sheaths and holsters.

1 1/2 hours till I get off duty and get to check out my new esee knife!
Fotomaker- those are the custom G10’s from TKC right?
Just stumbled across these the other day, and noticed they make them for just about every ESEE knife size. Just got an E-6, and currently researching a 4 for a friend.
How do you like them?
Worth the 50 bucks?
How well do they fix the issues with the stock handle of the 4?
Any other input/comments on 'em you’ve got to share?

You are correct, I got them from TKC. Well worth every penny I spent. Amazing shape, they have a great grip when wet. The best thing I can tell you is this. I would never own an ESEE blade without these on it.
Mike
I have the ESEE 4 and 6.
Bought the grandson an Izula.
Great knives.
I baton wood with the 6 with ease and the 4 is about the perfect size for an all around blade for the outdoors camping or other general chores such as food prep.
I do think a model 5 is in my future.
I have the 3, 5 and the Junglas. All are awesome. The 5 has took a beating but that just adds character.

Finally figured out how to post pictures through my app.
