Just an FYI my friend works at a gun range and in general conversation he stated that in the last 2 weeks (length of time he has worked there) he has had three separate people come to him asking if they carry batteries because their Eotechs died during their shoot.
PS: I asked which models they were running, he didn’t know…
One of the many drawbacks of running an EOthingy. Doesn’t matter which model they were running. They all have a short battery life.
I just got 2 of the new XPS models - the battery goes in sideways on these, so it should avoid the battery contact issue that some people suffer from. as for battery life, I haven’t had them long enough to say… But I have seen posts by others who claim that the 500-600 hr battery life is realistically close.
I didn’t get near the battery life that was claimed on the N battery 511 model I prev had.
That being said, I carry extra batteries for my EOtechs (I have some in the butt stocks of both guns, and several spares kept at home). But, I think the XPS models are much better
Some people just don’t have enough brains to keep spare batteries I guess.
I have a 552 that has had the same lithium AA batteries for more than a year. I have a new XPS model that I just purchased, installed a new battery I shall see how long that one lasts.

No sympathy for those people. I am a fan of eotech, they work well for my tired eyes. Batteries are going to die, check them and have spares on hand. Eotechs give a low battery signal upon startup if the battery has reached 20%. Im a geek, I check all of my batteries including my lights in regular intervals and replace as needed. I accept the short battery life of eotech, a 6 dollar battery in a $1500 gun is no big deal.
I sense this thread was started just for EOtech bashing. The title says EOTech battery failure:rolleyes: Really? Did the batteries fail because they were in an EOTech? No, they didn’t they went dead, it happens to ALL batteries. The title should be more like “Keep spare batteries” which is common sense and wouldn’t be worthy of a thread in the first place.
I just found that the batteries are dead in my TV remote as well. Cheap ass Samsung remotes! 
My F-250 gets lousy gas mileage, but I don’t run out of gas!

Seriously though, I have a AA MIAD grip core for the one EOTech equipped rifle I own. Seems like common sense to me.
What all you guys are saying about spare batteries is true. They should carry spares. Seems like a no brainier to me. That said, imagine instead of at the range you were somewhere else when you NEEDED that optic to work and then it fails as your protecting yourself. You really wouldn’t have time to put a spare in imo.
Like I said before, it seems to me like your just starting a thread to bash eotech’s.
Just another reason to be proficient with BUIS. I use EoTechs. I love them. They just seem faster to me than Aimpoints. I sold the one I had to buy a second EoTech. I can deal with the battery life a whole lot easier than I can deal with the blooming that I get when using an Aimpoint. Probably not the fault of the Aimpoint, I just prefer the EoTech. If it goes down, I’ve got plenty of trigger time on the irons to be overly concerned about.
its each individual responsibility to adapt their gear to their NEEDs,there is limitless what if scenarios any battery can fail /optics can be broken / zero issues etc …but that why you got your iron sights 
myself couple times i wasted my batteries on my issue NV Google’s doing other than mission oriented task but at the end of the day if to do night ops and “forgot” or got complaisant not to check the batteries and fails on me, the blame would be entirely be on me not the equipment same with any optic or battery operated equipment.
Just stating what I heard and my opinion. If thats what it sounds like to you then fine

I hate to to say it but that was the first thing I thought when I read his first post? Really, I had to sell batteries to 3 guys that RDS went dead??? Just saying dude. :o

I’ve stated on mine before, I’ve got and used a 552 one of the failures I had and adapted.
My driver I had finaly Qual with my M-4/203 and it with PVS-14 expert (night):rolleyes: but could not shoot any other M68/ACOG worth a damn:o he has a eye problem.
I do have a ACOG and don’t favor it due to eye relief and slower reaction times (self) older eyes. now when I can I’ll get a M4(S) Aimpoint
