I went to my first rifle class this weekend. 16 hours over two days and much shooting done in the prone position. By the second day my elbow was bloody from being placed under the rifle in the prone position, learning to find my NPOA. Even with a shooting mat, or likely because of it, my left elbow is raw. It actually woke me up last night because of this persistent burn. Just like skinning your knees or such playing deck hockey, basketball, etc.
Does any one company offer a good tactical elbow and knee pads?
I have a carbine class this Sunday and really want to pick some good ones up!
Knee pads, I’ve tried several and have preferred either the Telekneesis from Black Diamond or the Arctyx LEAF. Both are low profile, not bulky and don’t slide up or down. I’d probably give the edge the the Arctyryx Kneecaps because of a superior buckle system.
Sweet! Thanks guys. Yea, I mean I really didn’t know how hard that was on your joints until now. I think I’ll pick a pair of the ones you recommended up.
I’m surprised that nice shooting mat I borrowed did that to my elbow. I thought there would be a padded area for that reason.
If you have one in your boo-boo kit, whip out an ace bandage if it’s bad. I have soft girly elbows as far as comfort, and I wouldn’t hesitate to do something like that to not have a mangled feeling wenis.
I use franklin elbow pads from walmart. They are stupid cheap and comfortable. Also there is no hard plastic or anything like that. I can plant my elbows firmly on the ground with no worries of shifting around do to the plastic.
Blood is good, because it is as sticky as Hawkeye shooting adhesive and gives you a solid shooting position.
If you are resting your arm on the flat behind your elbow, you won’t chew up your elbow. if you occasionally rest your support arm on your elbow, a long sleeve t-shirt or sweatshirt under your outer garment will protect your elbow.
Yeh, anything will help. You can tape some toilet paper over your elbows with scotch tape but even a pair of $10 volleyball pads will help your comfort level immensely and be far more convenient.
