Edward Snowden - the Brian Williams Interview

Anybody see it?

I have to say, this kid does not come off looking or sounding like a traitor to me. He thought it thru; he tried to work thru channels. He claims to have kept if from the Russians nor received any financial gain. He claims to have kept out specifics that would directly harm any individuals. Clean, well-spoken, calm and thoughtful.

What he describes, used against AMERICAN CITIZENS, IHMO is in clear violation of the Constitution.

Opinions?

John Kerry, the hypocrite, seems to have forgotten his own protests against the government over the Vietnam war…Just who is the bigger “coward” and “traitor”…?

As the NSA logs this thread…

Since they can’t argue the benefits of their programs they’ve turned to character assassination and trying to be the loudest one in the room.

Didn’t watch that interview, however I did watch a 4hr PBS frontline special about it very recently.

Snowden is definitely not a traitor in my book, and more along the lines of a hero.

It’s on my list of things to watch this week.

The only harm I see that he’s done is that he’s forced the NSA to spy on us MORE secretively. More tax dollars to fund a new server bunker somewhere else.

They don’t have some super secret alien technology no one else has.

The only leg up they have on anything is the power of authority and secrecy.

In case anyone is interested TrueCrypt has basically ended as a viable encryption method. A lot of people are thinking our government got to them.

Article on TrueCrypt: http://www.forbes.com/sites/jameslyne/2014/05/29/open-source-crypto-truecrypt-disappears-with-suspicious-cloud-of-mystery/

Wow! I’ve been using true crypt for months with no issues. Scary stuff.

Don’t download 7.2 for anything. Older versions appear to still be safe.

That was an excellent Frontline. They really put out some good stuff. I threw it up on Facebook (oh the irony) and it only got a couple of hits when a lot of my other posts get lit up. It’s sad how most don’t know or just don’t care how big this part of our government has gotten and how much they know about everyone.

On another note the latest frontline about Ukraine and Syria is also excellent.

I may ride a little fast and someday it may catch up and bite me in the ass but maybe not if I give it just a little more gas.

According to truecrypt, they don’t feel like they have a niche anymore. Apparently they feel that bitlocker built-in to windows vista and up are more than secure. The US Government also feels that bitlocker is secure, FYI. So as WinXP is phasing out, they feel that their niche is gone and have decided to stop developing it.

At least, that’s according to what’s up on their site.

Actually they have always had all kinds of secret technology nobody else has. That is one of the reason they are so successful. A Bombe was an example of secret technology no one else had.

Which sounds nothing like something they’d actually truly believe. They’ve been developing TrueCrypt long after BitLocker came out.

There has long been discussions about MS or other companies using encryption and building in back doors. BitLocker is closed source and isn’t up for audits like TrueCrypt has been. If you trust MS and all that’s fine but there’s a reason people generally use other programs.

Secret doesn’t mean it’s capable of anything that a private company couldn’t put out. They still contract out their equipment and components.

Not believable since their products also run on MacOS and Linux. If they thought their niche ended at winXP, why did they make win7/8 compatible versions.

I do not know what is going on, but I do not believe any of the excuses I have heard yet either.

I watched the Frontline special as well. Listening to the likes of Hayden justify their systemic abuse of the Constitution was chilling. They are believers in their righteousness.

Anyone in .gov service knows that the NO FEAR Act is a pathetic joke. There is NO safe way to expose government corruption or constitutional breaches. As the VA scandal watchers are discovering, even IG investigations routinely fail to expose the issues.

Calling Snowden a common traitor along with the likes of Aldrich Ames and Robert Hansen is flat out wrong. These government apologists calling him such need to look in a mirror, because THEY have done more to damage the United States reputation and security than Snowden. When someone exposes your wrongdoing, you don’t get to blame them for the damage done without accepting your actions that precipitated the exposure.

Don’t want your secrets exposed? Then don’t do the deed. :frowning:

I actually laughed out loud at Kerry on the news last night calling Snowden a traitor.

What about bam bam’s grandparents working at Boeing and giving the TDP for the B29 and plans for the B52 to the russians in the 1940s/1950s???

Agreed…I couldn’t help constantly thinking throughout the program that it should be required viewing for every single American. It scared the shit out of me as well.

Also agree that the Ukraine/Syria episode was great. PBS is my favorite station…Frontline/Nova/Nature/Secrets of the Dead/etc. Tons of great programming, all very educational.

I used to love nova as a kid, the episode where they built a full scale trebuchet was the coolest thing ever, but I watched one yesterday and I can’t even remember what it was about. I do remember it was bad like history channel though.

I may ride a little fast and someday it may catch up and bite me in the ass but maybe not if I give it just a little more gas.
