An academic journal has published an article by a Ph.D. candidate at Pennsylvania State University that argues eating meat maintains a society where “hegemonic masculinity” is the norm.
Anne DeLessio-Parson, whose article was published in Gender, Place and Culture: A Journal of Feminist Geography, based her research on Argentina’s “meat-centric” culture.
“I contend that in such a context, we cannot separate the ways people ‘do vegetarianism’ from how they ‘do gender,’” Anne DeLessio-Parson wrote. “Doing vegetarianism in interactions drives social change, contributing to the de-linking of meat from gender hegemony and revealing the resisting and reworking of gender in food spaces.”
I read that recently. Whatever lady, you continue to eat tofu and squash casserole and “rework gender food spaces” (whatever that is) and I will enjoy my medium rare 16 ounce ribeye while my wife pours me another glass of iced tea.

Can someone help me out here? How does “toxic” masculinity differ from regular masculinity? Further, what is exactly is “toxic masculinity”? Is that when someone born with testicles likes to shoot guns, ride/drive real fast, and occasionally punch someone who deserves it in the face? Is masculinity toxic if I don’t wear tight pants, groom my nose hairs and never leave the house without a matching outfit on? If so, I think I might be suffering, or enjoying in this case, from this toxic masculinity.
