Yesterday at the NRA show I stopped at DoubleStar’s booth and examined their 1911.
The DoubleStar has the “feel” comparable to the custom “name” 1911 makers. Top drawer components and excellent execution.
Next time the “bug” hits me to get an additional 1911, DoubleStar is on my very short list.
And in case anyone is wondering, I have absolutely no connection with DoubleStar. I was just impressed with what I saw and thought I’d share it.
good to hear. i think double star makes a great product. i have one of there entry level rifles as a lender and it shoots pretty damn good. the only problem with double star ive found is they put fallopian tubes on there products.
i saw their ad in one of the gun mags…it does “look” high speed…
on a side note, my friends sister has an early '60s build Doublestar AR.
Understand DoubleStar made some “plain Jane” budget 1911’s some time ago.
What I saw is a far different animal. Forged frame and slide, Ed Brown and Cylinder & Slide parts, Storm Lake barrel, Strider grips. Nice trigger pull & break. Made to run hard.
BTW, they are coming out with non-rail, plain dust cover version also.
ill buy that. im not a rail fan and i cant shoot single stack classic with a rail
If it’s just another $1500+ 1911, I think the market is saturated with those. Any pics? Price point?
If someone would model themselves after the old Kimber 1911’s, where you got most all the “go-fast features” but well under $1000, I think they would clean up the market.
I also stopped in on the doublestar booth. He said he was going to take it to the Meusoc trials before it got scrapped. He said "MSRP is 1300 and gunbroker runs them at 1100. " I was impressed
It’s a shame it’s cheaper to get a rock solid AR than it is to get a rock solid 1911. I’m finding it increasingly hard to get excited by all these $1,200+ models; especially considering quality alternatives (HK45) being available for less.
I guess I’m just a cheap bastard :o . I do love 1911’s though.

Caspian slide and frame or Fusion slide and frame and Jerry Kuhnhausen and go to work. It will be absolutely one of a kind, built to your specs, and if done properly will run and qualify as Custom.
I agree but the market is creating the demand. People are still willing to overpay for them. :rolleyes:
I wish for the day that you could buy a pre-series II Kimber for $550 and it would run. The Loaded Springfields are about as close as you’re going to get.

I own the current 1911’s:
(2) Les Baer TRS’s
(1) Colt Series 80 (heavily customized, 2 tone)
(1) Yost-Bonitz 1* Enhanced (no longer done by Yost, I added some extra touched when I ordered it)
(2) Colt Series 80’s (Father’s, he passed)
The one thing I was lacking was a 1911 with a rail and this was next on the list, and the last 1911 I desired…really. I did a great deal of research and wanted a 1911 that I did not have to send off for 18mos to get wrenched on…
I consulted with well respected 1911 smith in my area, who's opinion I hold in high regard and one IMHO that I consider the best 1911 smith in the business, all due respect to others. John Jardine of www.valtrousa.com and I spent many hours on the phone and in person on this topic. John had wrenched on a few and said it was a damn good value for the money.
It ultimately same down to 2 choices: The Springfield MC Operator or the Railed Doublestar 1911.
I dont “gamble” when it come to 1911’s, but I was intrigued by the Doublestar. A friend who is also a 1911 fan went to The Show Show and stated that he was impressed with the Doublestar and the features it offered for the price point. A few things I really liked:
*It came with the front and backstrap checkering
*The out of the box trigger pull was impressive, very little creep, and a crisp 4ish lbs.
*Full of Ed Brown parts, Beavertail, internals
*Solid lock-up
*Gun is already dehorned out of the box
So, I had the opportunity to get it and dropped the hammer, no pun intended.
I took it to the range today and put roughly 200 runds through it, adding only lube and shooting my 185 grain reloads. POA vs POI was right on @ 15 yrds. Only changes I will make:
*Solid medium LOP Greider Trigger
*Tritium front sight and Jardine Custom rear sight
I was lucky and picked it up for $999...:D
