Available in 62gr 5.56 and .223, their ad’s gel shots look ok. Penetration is much higher in .223. Weight retention in bare gel seems poor at under 40gr, and there’s no barrier data shown, but it’s a bonded SP.
Do you have any knowledge of this round? Any plans to test it?
Got a friend who’s department has stated "TAP and Ranger only "are allowed but don’t seem to distinguish among the loads. Current issue is 55gr Silvertip, so he’s wondering about bonded alternatives for patrol within those product lines.
I specifically asked the LE rep if this was bonded and she stated it was not, only the jacket was thicker. I also asked if they had any plans for a bonded round and she stated they did not.
I don’t get the point of it myself as I believe its gel shot and the 8126N’s show almost the same penetration and retained weight.
Mid-weight bonded HP sounds ideal for a duty load. No worry about lead buildup, probably more accurate, and it’s under a buck a round. New product? ETA: Just saw it’s “coming soon” early December at Midway so it must be a new thing. This looks really promising. Described as “welded” so I’m assuming it’s not plated, might be good tough stuff. ETA2: Guess it’s just a .223 version of larger caliber loads and marketed for deer. So I wonder if it will perform well from short barrels, and if it uses low flash powder.
Currently the best .308 glass barrier loads are the Federal Tactical using the 165 gr Trophy Bonded Bear Claw JSP, Black Hills loaded 180 gr Nosler Accubond PT, Nosler 150 & 165 gr Partition, Remington loaded Swift Scirocco II 150 & 165 gr bonded PT, Swift A-Frame 165 gr JSP, Remington Core Lokt Ultra Bonded 150 & 180 gr JSP, Speer 150 & 168 gr Gold Dot JSP’s (and identically constructed Federal 150 & 165 gr Fusion JSP’s), Hornady Interbond PT
that’s from doc’s .308 le sticky. i just realized that the 308 tap barrier uses their 165g interbond plastic tip bullet. its sited in doc’s sticky so i trust its not complete snake oil. its just that there is not a whole lot of info out there in google land on this one.
