Do you need extreme pistol skills?

Hello all,

Thought I’d start off my first post with a handgun training article.

My former boss works there…Phil Strader.
Is this E. Lund?

Yep.

Been over on the other AR forum for a while, but I’ve been lurking over here a bit and I like the better attitudes over here so I decided to jump in.

Welcome man and stay awhile!

Excellent article, Erik! The number of people who assume they’ll never possibly need a pistol beyond 25yd (or 10yd or 5’) amazes me.

And welcome to the site. About damn time!

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I luv you guys!

That was a great article. Really makes you think…do I really have the skills that I should???

Welcome to the board!!

Erik,

I really liked this line in regard to controlling deviation when the target is further away:

Other than distance, the only change is the intensity with which we apply the fundamentals.

Good Stuff.

While you’re here: I enjoyed working with the USSA guys on the during the TBD taping last week. Your facility and personnel are top notch.

An interesting, thought-provoking article. Thank you for your post, and welcome.

The first time I read about LAV’s “walk-back” drills, I wondered briefly about their use. Your article reinforces that learning. It’s a very good confidence builder. As you said “If I can make a 100-yard shot…”

And as far as skills are concerned - “Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.”

Confidence builder is right - also dispels stupid myths like “you can’t hit anything with an AK”…

That yes, and Grant and I both proved that 10" SBRs and T1s at the 2008 mods/staff class that good shooters can make hits out as far as 16"+ guns and further depending on the skill of the shooter.

That is a stone-cold fact.

I would be much more worried about Pat Rogers armed with a bent paperclip and a stern look, than the average thug with a high-capacity firearm.

It’s all about the skills. I finished re-reading Paul Howe’s book a few days ago. I’m glad I did, as it hammered some things home again. Like many of you say, it’s about relentlessly applying the fundamentals, correctly and efficiently.

Sorry for the thread-jack…

Hey, no problem.

It was a good drift.
